WTF?

where did all the folders go in the "My computer" icon? Help?

Opened it yesterday and it was like that. Nothing comes up, and the window eventually freezes after 30 seconds.

your cd drive might be broken.  i've seen that before on a laptop... remove or disable the cd drive through your device manager, and see if 'my computer' works again.

a little background... a cd-rom communicates on a very low level with your cpu, so if there is any type of problem with the communication, windows has real problems working properly with explorer.  i'm not an expert on machine language, but apparently interrupt handling can cause system instability if there is a hardware issue with the cd-rom.  basically it just means that since there isn't any sophisticated software handling the cd-rom, even simple problems can cause stop errors at a hardware level with your cpu.

Not till you've tried disabling it (or unplugging it) and seeing if it resolves the problem.

Don't buy something to fix a problem when you don't know for sure what's causing the problem.

I don't really have any ideas as to what you should do, though.

Well the Drive is the main suspect because its having a hard time recognizing and running DVDs. Any ideas about what should I buy?

like everyone else suggested, i would definitely disconnect first to make sure it is the cd-rom.  just open up the case, disconnect the ide cable, and just ignore any bios errors on the reboot.  it should still boot you into windows, and you can confirm that the cd is the problem.  then just buy a cheapo on newegg.

A DVD player is a DVD player. Close your eyes and randomly click the screen, and then buy that one.

I have a Lite-On, which cost <$30 (as most do) and has never given me problems. I've burned quite a few DVD's and never had any coasters.
