Hey all, quick question, sorry if I sound kinda dumb.

I used to run dual monitors, a 1920x1200 24" and a 1300x786 TV. I would sometimes have a game in windowed on my monitor and a browser in the TV.

Anyway.

My 24" busted, and for a replacement I have a 22" dell that's borrowed from my dad's office. He says he can grab another 22" to set them side by side. I've never run two monitors of the same resolution before, so it's "kind of" new to me.

My question, is there any way to run an "ultra-wide screen" resolution on games like TF2 or warhammer? It sounds like it might be game-dependent, because I distinctly remember someone using 3 monitors to run some rediculous 4500x1500 or so resolution for eve, and the extra space was simply amazing.

I'm guessing that 3360 x 1050 (running two 1680x1050 side by side) won't be an option when opening TF2 or any other games. So is it dependent on the game? Does anyone know for source engine games in particular?

I would imagine that resolutions wouldnt run that high, also you would need a pretty solid graphics card to run those resolutions smoothly...

I'm currently running a dual monitor setup, its an awesome workspace with all the room and all, so do the dual monitor setup anyways.

I run dual 8800GTXs. They haven't had much issue running much of anything. I remember seeing giant setups and having games like TF2 spread across them, but don't recall how to do it/if it takes more effort than it's worth.

Oh, and I do all my work on the laptop. PC is pretty much for gaming only.

Not sure, but I would say yes. I am able to run COD2 on a pair of 19 inch dell monitors at a really wide resolution. (Not that I do). I no longer have both monitors, and never checked anything besides COD2 and COH at the time, but yeah. I would think they would work (sry for convoluted and most likely unclear post)

If you're running two screens side by side ingame, wouldn't the border between the two screens be annoying? The crosshair would be split on opposite sides of the border wouldn't it?

He's got a point there.  The space between the screens would drive me nuts, whether the game had a crosshair or not.

In FPS, yes. In RTS not really, but the extra space really doesn't help that much. I find it far more useful to have vent/webrcon/etc showing on one screen so I can keep an eye on things while gaming.

Multiscreen gaming really needs three monitors.

Not trying to be funny, but how the hell do you shoot in fps in a dual monitor setup?

Yeah, the only way you could do FPS would be with three monitors.. Middle monitor would then have an unsplit crosshair.
