Cos if anyone has watched Band of Brothers there's that American guy who was a POW but was fighting for the Nazi's and it made me think...
During the war there were many Nazi supporters in America. I think it was a different story when the boys were in the sit though. If you think that was hard for German-Americans, imagine the American Civil War.Ajax_the_Great1 wrote:

The Irish took a lot of shit over the years. Basically discriminated as much as Black people minus slavery. The Irish surpassed their fucked up position in America and have contributed a large part of our traditions. I guess my dad can't bitch about there not being a white history month. (lol he hates everyone. I guarantee he'll find a problem with the Irish.)

Well obviously, it's one or the other, because they pretty much make up the Scottish Premier League.Mekstizzle wrote:

You sir, are a bastard. I guess I need to buy more Guinness so I can observe this month with "appropriate ceremonies, programmes, and activities." After all Guinness > shitty Budweiser w/ green food dye which for some reason has been all the rage on previous St. Patty's Days.......bullshit tbh.FatherTed wrote:

(Prior to WW-2, we were of German, Irish, Spanish)
All that immigrated to America died before I was a soldier, so they never talked to me about such things.
Especially with the WW-2 generation, they didn't talk war around non-veterans. To their minds, it would've been like talking about sex around the little children. Some things, you need a common frame of reference to even start having a discussion. Otherwise, your words are as likely as not to be grossly misunderstood.
Speaking strictly from my estimates, though.. Soldiers fight for their homeland - and homeland mostly means 'where your mom, wife and kids live' & 'where you grew up' for the most part. The traditions and ideals of your nation count for a great deal, but those too can be broken - hence the German(part 2) and Russian sides of my family immigrating to the US during/after WW-2.
The questions I would've liked to ask them are more along the lines of "What made you decide to leave your homeland for America?". The (2nd) German side left after WW-2. The Russian side left during WW-2.
ill be carrying to US flag in a ST.Pattys day parade.
