is it common to ship around concorde planes?  i thought the first photo was kinda funny, as if they were going to take it along with the aircraft carrier.

Hmm.... well, what i remember is that it was retired shortly after one crashed after take off in france.... what i remember, is that they said there was a piece of debris on the runway that ruptured the fuel tank.....

I guess they decided the safety issues outweighed the pros.....

i thought it was becoming to expensive, with not enough people buying tickets... but i do recall hearing about safety issues.  it's too bad though, very cool to have been able to go supersonic.

After a period of being grounded, and once the cause of the crash was identified and the fuel tanks strengthened to prevent the same happening again, they did continue to fly.
But as stated above in the end it seemed to be the cost of running and maintaining them that was the final nail in the coffin...
