60% chance of no go.. Chief Astronaut Steve Lindsey is flying a T-38 jet around the area of Kennedy Space Center to evaluate the atmospheric conditions leading up to launch. He will later fly a Shuttle Training Aircraft for more detailed analysis. The STA is a highly modified Gulfstream II business jet that can mimic a shuttle gliding back to land. Shuttle commanders and pilots practice extensively in the STA. The Closeout Crew is going through its careful procedures before closing the hatch on Endeavour. The protective cover over the hatch has been removed and the door will be closed shortly. Then technicians will lock it into place and leak checks will be conducted to make sure it is sealed. The astronauts inside the shuttle can open the hatch in an emergency

This mission is not having much luck, delayed by a month already and it looks like more delays now.

the good news is now it is just a weather issue. They can keep trying until it cooperates. The launch window moves forward by about twenty minutes everyday..

update:
The launch weather rule for lightning is now being violated due to a storm cell to the south. So weather is "no go" for launch at this time.

Boo. I vote relocation to Texas, some place that's a giant desert instead of a giant swamp. Less chance of rain, and you'll still be able to take off with the rotation of the earth and have the Gulf of Mexico as your dumping ground instead of the Atlantic Ocean

way too many thunderstorms in texas during the summer.  i would say arizona.  but, then again that may be way too hot and way to much sand blowing around.

For those who don't.. the gravitational boost the shuttle gets at launch is greatest the closer you are to the equator.. and since it launches east (with the rotation of the earth) NASA wants it to be over the (uninhabited) Atlantic ocean for safety, srb retrieval, etc..

The stormy weather remains around the Kennedy Space Center is now violating the lightning, anvil clouds and field mill rules. The field mills measure the electrical potential in the air.
