Your debate is pretty much if homosexuality was a choice would homosexuals still choose to be homosexual. Of all the out gay people I know none of them would chose to be turned hetrosexual. Their sexuality is a part of who they are. As for people who aren't out but know they're gay there is a possibility that they'd choose to be re-wired into being hetrosexual to avoid the doubts and concerns that come with being in the closet. Still I don't think any scientist would waste their time trying to find a "cure" for homosexuality - what benefits are there to be had?

People do sometimes chose to be gay.

They do it to punish God or their parents.

Also, men confined with other men sometimes take to gay behaviour out of boredom and horniness. They choose to let Charles slober his knob. Then they get out off prison and revert to their nature tendancy.

Being gay is sometimes a choice, sometimes genetics, but most often...  both.

Most modern conceptions of sexuality describe it as a spectrum with heterosexuality on one end and homosexuality on the other.  Bisexuality is basically the middle portion.

Anyway, given this idea, I would argue that homosexuality is just as "natural" as heterosexuality in its occurrence among our species, albeit far less common.  Generally speaking, what we typically define as homosexuality involves individuals far along the homosexuality side of the spectrum.  However, people who think of themselves as straight can still have attractions to the same sex that vary depending on how close they are to the bisexual part of the spectrum.   This helps to explain why bisexuals often still prefer one gender over the other, despite being open to both.

Likewise, it is possible for someone who thinks of him/herself as gay to be attracted to a specific person of the opposite sex if they are close to the bisexual part of the spectrum.

In summary, there will likely always be a certain percentage of people who are gay or are bi.

Well here in Ireland a report out a few weeks ago stated that, there are now more straight people with HIV/AIDs than gay people.
