Nope, I worked for an engineering firm that did testing on bicycle helmets for the Canadian Ministry and they found even the top helmets absorb less than 5% of the impact of falling, so pretty much insignificant. Think about it, what could under an inch of padding do against a 150-200lb person falling? Practically nothing.
Plus, it does nothing to protect against neck injuries which could be far more severe.
I'm not bashing helmets, I wear one. I'm just saying they do very little to protect you, they're very overrated.
