160-170 sounds like an acceptable BMI for 6'5", im that much but 6'6" and im just on a health BMIPug wrote:

Plus I was doing lots of sport, like swimming. Until junk was gone, I never gained a pound.
Ah yes but pug is from texas, everthing is bigger there!Vilham wrote:

If you combine gaining weight and putting on muscle you'll become bulkier and -more attractive-. Why on earth would you want to gain weight?
Also, if people want to put on any muscle you need to eat as much food as you can otherwise your body simply doesn't have the fuel to burn. I eat around 1000-1500 calories extra a day because I'm on a fairly intense workout plan and I simply don't have the energy if I don't eat enough.
BMI is not the best representation of an indivduals health. It's a rough start at best. If you really want a good assessement you'll do something like this:Vilham wrote:

105 KG and 6 foot. I was 112 about 4 months ago though - decided that pure heavy weight training was good enough for me without any cardio to burn off the extra fat :p So now I run as much as possible and only train one facet of my body every day so I don't overwork myself.SonderKommando wrote:

I'm kind of in the same boat as you - i've got a pullup bar as well and do various things - have gained a shitload of upper body strength but it doesn't show much. I don't mind going to the gym here but I don't really have a workout buddy...teddy..jimmy wrote:
If you're going to hit the protein powder make damn sure you have a solid cardio regime otherwise you'll just end up gaining fat round your belly. I tried the whole 'bulk up', 'i want bigger biceps' stage a few months ago and didn't have the dedication because I found the gym so fucking boring. I'm fairly thin but don't look it because I've been doing sport my entire life (given award for top athlete at my school when I left ). I play football, rock climb, squash, cross-country ski, run, lacrosse, sail, cricket.
My advice to you if you're like me and find out that you hate continuously doing reps inside a sweaty gym is to get involved in a sports team. I always advise people who are looking to bulk up to look into rowing. They stick you through a bloody intense work out scheme and it's good at building up your arms, legs and shoulders/back. As soon as you're doing exercise you'll constantly be hungry so like other said make sure you're eating enough.
To the gymers: I'm looking at bulking up my chest and shoulders to fill out my shirt. I don't want to do it at a gym and was wondering if it was possible through any special type of pushup/pull up?
Edit: Or look into joining your local climbing club. I find the best/most intense muscle work out comes from pulling yourself up over an overhang. It also works many muscles simultaneously rather than just focusing on one group....and it's incredibly fun.

When I do underhand, I go all the way down to almost a hang before going all the way back up. I often need my legs and core to go all the way back up, and I can feel my abs when doing this. Granted it's not your typical chin just below the bar then back up, but I deffo feel it working something in the core.m3thod wrote:
It's an excellent exercise but you're mistaken it will do anything for your core.

Maybe your form is wrong? i don't go all the way down when doing pulls up, I come down to the point where i am still stressing the back/shoulders but i am not hanging like a derranged baboon. Also look up when you're doing pullups, this places emphasis on your lats.
Lastly form is everything, if you're not doing it right, then don't do it at all.

I didn't say it was "doing something right". I just said I feel it working. I know that it's not always a good thing :/m3thod wrote:

Actually my arms are freakishly large compared to my other muscles.. 18" vascular and striated as fuck. I am loving being this lean, its my back is really strong too, wide backs and big legs win shows!!Hakei wrote:
Seems pretty solid, my only objection would be to do more arms working, but seeing as you'll be shifting weights to/from other machines during other days, I guess it counts as part of a work out. I try to let a muscle relax for 2-3 days before using it again, a week would be a bit too long for me. Though having constant CMF every day bar the time before I work out that group is pretty annoying, not so much of a problem around my shoulders, but I hate sitting down and having that ugly strechy feeling in the back of my thighs.
Yeah it's around 230 pounds, I have a bit of puppy fat around my belly that needs to go, but apart from that I'm fitter than 90% of the kids at my school.
I wish I could type a routene, but I'm too lazy and generally work on the idea of "If it doesn't hurt, work it out." Though endurance running is my next target, a 20 km run is a pretty solid target I'd like to work towards getting in the next 3 months.
