Hey guys

I finally got my new graphic card. It's an ASUS GTX260 core 216. I have a 550w PSU which is the minimum so I thought it would be okay. But whenever I play a game the temperature skyrockets to around 100°C and I don't know why. Wouldn't the fan on the card be sufficient enough to cool it? It wouldn't make sense not to.

Anyway so now my PC will shut off. I'll be playing and suddenly the computer will stop as if the power went out. This only happens when I'm playing games, with the exception of L4D which seems to be working fine. So anyway I keep my case open and have a big fan blowing in there, thinking the PC automatically shuts off to protect itself from the heat. Now it only goes to a max of 86°C but that's only if I'm really killing it (Crysis). So since the heating isn't an issue all I can think of is the PSU. I the minimum supply. Why won't it work?

What do you guys think?

Thanks in advance!

Your brand of PSU would help.

86c is a little high as it is. Have you dl'd any fan controlling software? *cough EVGA Precision cough*

I'll put it this way. 86C is not good, and its not normal for a card that not overclocked (unless it is?)

Thinking the card itself might be having an issue.  100C for a GTX260 is a lot, my 275 only gets into the 80s under big load.  Most cards will auto shutdown the system when they hit unsafe temps, I know, my 7300GS and 4850 did that to me(both in the 110C+ range)

As for the PSU, if you have a decent PSU you should be fine.  My 275 is managing to run just fine off my 500w PSU, and yes I'm well aware I need a new PSU for this card.

I would try some fan settings on the card. Asus do make their own software to do this. http://support.asus.com/ What kind of case do you have ?

Might be a shoddy card. If none of the above sorts it, contact Asus and get an RMA on that bad boy.

Quite a few video cards have the fans running pretty slow. Mine (also a GTX260) is locked to 40% unless you change it using EVGA Precision or Rivatuner. Recently my card seem to be getting quite hot too, but if I turn the fan up when gaming, it's all fine.

My GTX 260 can take 100C without any problems. That is still hot though but atleast my GTX 260 can handle it. I'd look for the PSU.

86C is normal for G200 chips, they work nicely upto 105c. I would like to hear the Brand and model of the PSU.

Wow so many replies! Thanks! I really haven't had much time to quickly check all this stuff because I've been getting ready for school. But after school today I will tell you all the stuff you needed.

But I don't know anything about how good the airflow is. I will post a picture of the inside of my PC will that help?

A pic would probably be helpful I think.

And specs they asked for, but you know that already...
