SSD's aren't worth the price and not really something to consider when you want to do a somewhat noticeable upgrade, besides the dude has 1TB of space already. He already explained his current CPU OC situation, and a new GFX card is utterly pointless, even if he was using it for gaming.

No point wasting money on a new card for fricken HDMI. They don't output sound, not to my knowledge anyway... and most shit worth its salt that comes with a HDMI comes with DVI.

Go for the new CPU that, that guy suggested. Use your Freezer 7 for it. Buy some of that new fangled paste if you haven't got some. Leave the rest it as it as and spend the rest of your money on booze and weed.

Quad or save up for completely new build.

With SSD its not about storage but speed.

I said consider a card with HDMI. Why not? I didn't say get a card only so you get an HDMI output. And they do output sound. To your knowledge...

It's not really a waste of money, you don't need to jump onto i7 yet with the DDR3 and all that. Especially since the only i7/1366 boards that are out are the X58 ones.

IMO, that would be a waste of money.

Let me expand on what I actually use the computer for and then you might see that a full upgrade is not a waste, or still keep the same mindset.

I usually run Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Illustrator, Opera (min 20 tabs), Firefox (min 15 tabs), FTP, Media Monkey (like songbird, iTunes), Internet Explorer (max 4 tabs). Photoshop usually has between 3-5 files, most over the 4MB mark, Dreamweaver has at least 25 files open being edited and Illustrator has one, maybe 2 AI files open. Opera is running IRC as well.

Well, i7 is made for heavy work and multitasking. If you can afford it (not best bang for buck you see), it will chew everything you could possibly throw at it for a long time, even longer if you overclock it (they OC like crazy!).

i'm thinking you should still stick with the Q9450. if all that is running fine on a dual core, the quad will handle it fine. you can always overclock it in the future if needed (which i doubt).

edit: i think 8 GB of RAM would help with those adobe programs as well, but keep the processor in mind first

It isn't running fine on Dual Core. I'm lucky if I open up Photoshop after having Dreamweaver and all the browsers open.

i think going with either the Q9450 or i7 is really your choice. personally, i would go with the Q9540 but you know what you're running better than i do. the i7 is better, yes, but is it worth a new mobo and RAM as well? you're only getting a little more performance vs the Q9450 but with great SLI/XF scaling, which you don't need atm (correct me if i'm wrong Panz).

yeah its not THAT big difference, but with lots of multitasking there start to be bigger differences. SSD is really THE thing you want for work machine as it pretty much kills all load times to minimum and overall pc will be much more responsive. HDD is the slowest component in PC and when you take the 'handbreak' off, it is noticable gains.

okay, here's one thing to try that won't cost you anything: acquire Vista x64 (preferably Ultimate) and install it on another partition. open all the apps you would normally do while you're working and see if it's zippier than 32 bit. keep in mind that it's a fresh install though, and that it SHOULD be faster just because of that fact.

how are the prices in the UK though? for a 80 GB in the US, you're looking around the $200+ mark, and not even for an Intel. whereas for $75 i can get a F1 1TB.
