Sound systems aren't really my thing but this would be a good place to look at what you could get.

Otherwise ask .Sup about sound equipment.

I dont see the problem with spending on a sound system, people enjoy music and want to listen to it how they like in their car. Why should he have to hav e a good car to listen to music?

I've got a sony headunit with aux in which is suiting me good cause i like the aux in straight from ipod. Its a sony xplod CDX-GT06.

Well... I could probly go $250 for starters as a budget.

One thing im a little confused about is loudness of speakers, is it mainly judged by which has the highest RMS combined with a powerfull enough amp?

Also, the place mentioned above has some pretty good prices on subs

Just not sure about quality

Dual 12 inch subs with an RMS of 800w. Not bad for under 200 dollars. right? <- this is a question

That's hardly fair, mods should decide when a ban is necessary, not the OP, especially when it's Mitch

I'm just saying, as a general sort of warning, that this thread has been flagged.

And further more, that is all.

Ok, well first off, don't be a douche that automatically think louder=better. It doesn't.

Now, to answer some questions:

The RMS value (Root Mean Square) is the wattage the speaker can handle... so a speaker with a RMS of 300 watts needs a 300 watt amp. Lower power amps have to work harder, destroying the amp and making it sound like crap, while a more powerful amp can blow the speaker.

I'd suggesst getting a few JBL 4x6's, and starting from there. I've been in a van that only used four of those speakers... best car stereo i've heard.

That's a bit off. Speaker can handle more than RMS, its called peak power but only lasts for around 30 min to an hour, depends on the speaker.

Personally I'd go with JVC speakers- I have them. Very good quality/money balance. Now size and type of a spekers depend where you want to place them. An option is: 2 tweeters at the bottom of the wind shield, 2 all-in-one level speakers at sides (in front doors) and two bass only speakers at the rear wind shield and another sub if you like lots of bass. Also an amp, something like this MRA-F350

... I was trying to be basic, yet having enough technical data to support me. Yes, I've used 400w speakers with a peak of 1600w... But as a general rule, you do want to match speakers with the amp, if you want them to last, anyway

Hehe I wanted to be basic too. But I totally agree an amp is essential, its not just about the power but a good amp will provide a better sound than any radio integrated amp would.

Not sure if they sell them in the USA, but focal speakers are absolutely brilliant, they are better than all the household names like JVC, SONY or KENWOOD, they are more expensive though, but truly awesome sound quality

Since you have a car, put some Dynamat material around your trunk so it doesn't rattle... And either face the subs outward toward the rear of the car or fold down the front seats and face them in. I don't suggest keeping the rear seats up with the subs facing in...
