You can't disprove something that doesn't exist in any kind of perceivable way in the first place. Spaghetti monster, anyone?

And most likely they added the 'probably' to make their message appeal to a broader range of people, and to avoid making religious nuts butthurt.

atheists are never going to be able to say that there is definitely no god. they can only hope to further their understanding and explanations of life and reality through other, more rational ways. the 'probably' is obviously there to avoid offending sensitive-types, but in a more literal sense it has a valid meaning, too...

I prefer to look at things from the usual POV, I.E there isn't a god until you can prove there is. If the internet hasn't given you the idea that it's drivel, then give the god delusion a read. Fantastic book, it explains quite clearly how, even while looking at things from the "disprove god" side, there almost certainly isn't a god and the idea itself is absurd for many reasons.

even the pope of the atheist church and his top cardinal, hitchens, cannot conclusively say as scientists that there is NO god. they can't say it. they can take your line and say that there is no proof of a god, but there is equally no scientifically-tested proof that there isn't a god, either. they're still dealing with a theory, essentially, just one with lots of semi-supportive evidence. it's a question that never can and never will be answered; militant atheists are wasting their goddamned time. dawkins is only in it for the $$$ and public attention.
