So they prove you have a stable source of income.

That's my point.  It's in the calculation somewhere...no?

I'm a college kid ( well I was because now I can't afford the tuition and my parents can't help out either ) I live in a run down piss poor apartment bc renting is higher then a mortgage payment, I have shit car parked outside running 4 balled tires, overheats and the transmission is slipping, the inside of apartment has a futon - a cement block entertainment center with a tv from '87 - a vhs/dvd combo - a wire spool for a dinner table

but Hey I don't have to worry about those evil credit card companies or banks because I'm saving every week on top of paying a monthly renting fee, gas, food, car insurance, utility bills, clothing, entertainment
Look at what you said: "on top of paying a monthly renting fee, gas, food, car insurance, utility bills, clothing, entertainment"... now you change rent to house payment, add car payment and credit card balance every month so how are you going to find the money for all that? It looks you're screwed either way.  Don't worry about saving 'cause banks and credit card companies will make sure you do, they'll suck you dry.

I was just offered a VISA Black "Carbon"
The card is made up of some carbon composite.
This is an annual fee of $495 for membership and bragging rights I guess,
but I'll spend the $495 on something else like hookers, blow, and Big Mac hamburgers.

well lets see here ............. I live in a house that is building equity ..... you don't build equity in a rental ..... the exact same house payment I make, would cover a rental fee for a place half the size of what I'm in ......... half

I drive a '06 truck with a 10 year/ 100,000 mile warranty .... its paid off

after your used high high mileage car gets worked on for a starter, alternator, transmission, timing belt, radiator, fuel pump

between mine and ours which is going to need repairs first

all this and I still save ....... nice house, nice truck, wife has a nice suv ................ and my bank actually gives me money and not just the interest I make off my savings account but it gives me money just for being with them .... monthly

have fun in your rental, enjoy riding in your very very used car ( well when its riding and not in the shop ) ............... and how does that college diploma look on the wall ..... oops nevermind ... couldn't afford that tution, I understand

Funny thing we were talking about this young guy asking what credit card is better for him but let's instead make it about how awesome your lifestyle on credit is,i'm green with envy right now.
I could talk about the car i drive which runs perfectly since it's newish or the fact that i bought my house without having to pay 5 times its real worth or show you my diploma from a top rated university that i didn't have to pay a dime for. I could brag and brag about how well off i am but it would be too tacky so i won't

Do you ever pull your head out of your ass and try to put yourself in someone elses shoes? Guess not.

IF i had to pay tuition i would work through college and save money like many of the american i know do.
IF i had to ask the bank for money to buy my house, i would be paying it for 50 years.

Now back to me...yes i payed my house up front and 2 years later is worth more than what i gave for it because of it.

Why don't you take your own fucking advice

Try being a full time student here in the states at nice college, holding down a full time job, saving for a car ( if you don't all ready have one, then you have to maintain it) insurance ( guess what, most insurance companies run a credit history, they will be curious why you don't have one ) pay cell phone bill ( again cell phone companies run a credit history ) pay for rent ( some renters do a credit check ) pay for utilitys ( most utility companies run a credit check ) pay for food, pay for clothing, pay for entertainment

Yeah do all this without ever dealing with 1 bank or 1 credit company

Guess what even in the US you are able to use your bank only to deposit your money in. I bet the older members of your family did exactly that. You cannot live without credit is what the banks and credit companies want you to believe. And thinking your life is better because you can rely on credit is a big illusion.

I bet the older members of my family still needed to get a loan for their business and their house. I bet they didn't have so many monthly occurrences that tie in with your credit history.

Do you think of me irresponsible for having credit ...... not debt ... but credit

A small house in the suburbs of DC could cost anywhere from $300,000 to $500,000. It takes a LOT of time to save up that money if you're not already rolling in the big bucks.

Now I COULD just live in the middle of fucking nowhere in Iowa or something, but the fact of the matter is I don't want to. So I can either try and save money for years and years to buy a house (while spending more money paying rent so I don't have to live in a cardboard box, when that money could go toward paying off the mortgage) or I can get a mortgage at a great rate, pay it off, and have equity in a good home.

edit: Don't even get me started on the houses in DC proper. If you want to live in a fun area where you don't have to worry about being killed in the cross-fire of a gang shootout, you're looking at around $800,000 for a small place.

So I applied for a BofA Visa card and they rejected me right away lulz

I think it's because I don't really have a fixed income. I just get money from my parents each month for shit like movie tickets or going out to eat occasionally. And it's not like I get a huge amount of money. My scheme was to pay for these small charges with my card, then pay the card off in full each month, to start building some good history. It's not like I have to spend much money anyway

What do I do?

Fucking sick of this Citibank ad they keep spamming lately.

"lololol r u paying 17% on ur kard? lol ur dum. u shud get our kard! its 1%! 1 FUCKING PERCENT!"

[fine print]yer btw that 1% is only for a year, at which you'll be shot up to a ludicrous 20%. And you thought 17% was bad, well fuck you dumbshit, sign up to the $25,000 limit and get reamed already. Also no-one reads this.[/fine print]

@Cheez do people still fall for that shit? I mean christ the prime rate isn't even 1% so it'd be impossible to have a card that's 1% forever (I think)

@SERE I had this really fucking awesome dream that I got like a 240SX or a Honda Prelude or some cheap-ass car last night actually. But no I don't own a car can I put my old computer as collateral or something?
