But without the moon we couldn't learn important things about our own heavenly body, like gravity

If it makes you feel better, every single cent of tax money you've ever paid went to that school you went to.

That'll be decades off, but establishing a base in outerspace like that is still a huge step for humanity. It all adds up in the bigger picture of things.
then humanity can pay for it next time.....
Actually it's not just NASA that are doing everything anyway. Things have changed. Space agencies around the world work closer together than you think. This mission wasn't just for the moon base, I was just giving some perspective on the long term goals for it all. Stuff like this is important for loads of reasons.

Well I'm sure that you've paid under, say, a few million tax dollars.

How much money do you think your state paid for the school to be built, to pay the teachers, etc?

Huh. Guess I assumed wrong. Well, maybe your taxes paid for that national highway you drive along each day to work?

That's probably expensive.

Maybe for this mission. But a recent example would be recently when they confirmed that water exists on the moon. That was a joint NASA/ISRO mission.

and ESA

Two other satellites to look at the Moon - the US Deep Impact probe and the US-European Cassini spacecraft - back up Chandrayaan.
Yeah for this specific moon blast mission it was probably all NASA. But it's not just NASA that is doing everything in general.

But they are doing the most, seeing as it's probably the richest space agency out of them all and the one with the most experience.

I don't know why you're being so difficult when you take into account the amount in real terms of your money went into this...

Aren't you the one picking and choosing too, I've never seen you complain about the cost of something like Iraq or Afghanistan. But you're complaining about NASA missions.

For me, someone that complains about the Iraq war cost but doesn't about NASA makes more sense than the other way round.

And the point of fighting in Iraqi is...? Oh... "an ideology".

The implications for finding water on the fucking moon are endless. We could find early forms of life up there.

Reactions from people were classic.
