Getting "a disk read error" in two machines, booting from the windows cd doesn't help; it cannot find an OS on the drive.
I've got an RMA open with WD, anything else I should try?

Now it gives me BOOT MGR is missing.
Tried rebuilding it from the recovery prompt, but it cannot see any installation at all.
Edit: I also attempted to re-install windows, but it wont even begin to install.

Well, then, what are you waiting for? Unless you want to boot to another drive and try and re-index it to recover data.The_Sniper_NM wrote:

Sounds like your data is fucked and you will need to reformat the drive. But I wouldn't be at all surprised if it works after that.
RMAing and you haven't even tried formatting it?The_Sniper_NM wrote:

Anyone have experience with WD's RMA service? Will I be on this C2D 3GB 8600GT dinosaur until Christmas?
Since when is a C2D and 3GB of RAM a dinosaur?The_Sniper_NM wrote:

yes. my raptorX died after about 2.5 years of use. I RMA'd it with the error code from the diag program on their website and they sent me a *new one with the same 5 year warranty. the process went well, but it did take a little time since they don't send you the new one until they receive yours and verify its bad. all-in-all a couple weeks. I just got around to opening the "new" one when I did my win7 install and noticed the clear window on the raptorX has some minor scratches on it, so I'm guessing they sent me a refurb - but it still has the warranty.The_Sniper_NM wrote:
