Lol I just downloaded music from Jenspm. If your net went a bit slow for a bit that's the reason.

It's a technical university. Cheaper than Windows, I suppose. The problem is that all of the computers outside of the IT lab all run KDE (some Fedora variation, it looks like) and it all runs off a central server. Then you add an old as balls P4 to the mix and you have a very slow computer. There are a few C2Ds in one of the other buildings and they're fine, but the P4s ... I hate them. The IT lab has a different Fedora distro (looks very much like Ubuntu, whereas the KDE is like Windows) and those all run just fine.Sydney wrote:

Shortly after making that last post, though, I saw that Opera is on them, too. Maybe I'll try that next time I'm at uni.
KDE has nothing to do with an operating system. KDE is the graphical area of Unix systems. It's a desktop environment. Not an operating system. Just like GNOME.CapnNismo wrote:

Most linux systems can run on either graphical interfaces - Ubuntu runs on GNOME.
Fedora also runs on GNOME but has KDE as well. Kubuntu, Mandrive and Gentoo also have KDE.
The hell you say, so you can load up and share across the webz. Any kind of security on that because I could get Jenspm media.DeathUnlimited wrote:

OK, I didn't know that. It's got KDE plastered all over that Fedora distro and has the window bar at the bottom like in Windows, whereas the Fedora distro in our lab looks like Ubuntu. I'm not a Linux guy. I haven't a bloody clue. I just use the damn things to do a bit of surfing and Java programming.Zimmer wrote:

Every single bit of "the look" in Opera is customizable. I prefer stability.

I like the simplicity of my theme.
I like a status bar.

Consistency might be a better word I suppose. However, Google even acknowledges Chromes stability issues and promises to address them in 4.0 (which I fully intend on trying)..Sup wrote:

Haven't you yourself had issues with chrome/webpages? I remember and exchange between chuy and someone about this. I thought it was you.
