Any thing I need to know about W7 before I go ahead and switch from XP? besides back up music movies and such

Backup anything you need, formatting will wipe everything.

In your BIOS (press Del), set primary boot to CD/DVD drive.
Restart.
Follow on-screen instructions.

Have fun.

I always backup my steam games.. my itunes xml file, and other important docs... just some thoughts.

Loaded the Win7 install onto a 4GB memory stick.
(so it installs from the USB stick, rather than installing from slower optical media)

From power on, install of Win7 from USB stick, reboot, to Windows 7 desktop: less than 5 minutes.

Useful to have a USB installer stick, if you do multiple installs.

Another tip:
If you want your Win7 x64 USB stick to be able to install any version of Win7 x64, remove the file ei.cfg from the \sources directory.
You still need a valid serial number for the version you're installing - so it's not a crack.
It just cuts down on the number of different install media you need.
One USB stick - installs home, home premium, professional, or ultimate.
