Yes they are, actually. They're just not as organizied/unified as the other options.Lucien wrote:

Heh, we sort of have that in common. I don't consider myself a true Christian as I am not exactly fully committed to the religion, I hardly pray much and I don't go to church as my parents aren't sure which one to go to around here. I do accept Christ as savior though.androoz wrote:

I can post quotes which on face value seem smart enough but actually carry no relevance to the conversation in hand at all too.

Well according to a Christian belief, there's all different reasons that God did that. It was probably done to signify that the Hebrews should work 6 days, and then take a seventh as a break, to relax, spend time with friends, rest. I'm sure a lot of the time he was perfecting things, making it how he envisioned. Now saying this God would of had to invent time as a dimension to place the newly created universe into. Genesis 1:1 says, In the beginning(of time) God created the Heaven and the Earth, heaven being stars, moons, galaxies, and I'd assume time. Earth being everything on earth, gravity, atmosphere, such such. But it also says it was dark and void, so nothing on it yet. Continuing on, God didn't fuck up, it was humans, according to the story the world groaned at the weight of sin, so God needed to fix it. So i guess he sent the flood.Dauntless wrote:
Can I ask the Christians in here a few questions? It's not even to be a douche or something, I'm genuinely interested in what their responses are to these...
If god was all powerful (omnipotent) why did it take him 6 whole days to make earth and then have a whole days rest? Also how can you measure time in days before the planet is made?
If he was all knowing why did he fuck up the first time and start again with Noah?
It's just something I've always thought was stupid....
also, what about the dinosaurs?

I think that it does, seeing as this is the main-point of Christianity. This is where the Christian ideas are formed, so it's basically a how-to guide by the creator of the religion. I wasn't debating the existence of a deity, I was simply discussing the worldview of Christianity. The book states that there is a deity, yes, so if you are looking from this mindset, it is basically telling you that there is.Bevo wrote:
surely you're not quoting what a book says to be true as evidence of the existence of some deitybakinacake wrote:

look for the whole religion, god, atheism, whatever thing I don't give a flying fuck what you believe or don't believe. but if you think that quoting the bible means anything in an argument about the existence of a deity you're simply deluded.

First mistake, Step 2. Use fear tactics to get people to join religion. If you had read the book, you would know that God is not about using fear tactics, but using love. According to this book, all these 'fear tactics' will come true, it is a warning. Would me telling you that you're going to get into a car accident tomorrow be fear tactics, if i knew it was going to happen. No. It would be a warning so that you wouldn't drive tomorrow, because I don't want you to die.Bevo wrote:

If I made a book, sent it back 2000 years that said fat green men were sitting on top of your head all day and you couldnt see or feel them but only sense their presence. And if you didn't please them you got baked in a giant oven when you died...
would you believe it? You can't disprove it.

Well, say if it was true, would it be a fear tactic? If you 110% knew it was going to happen, would it be a fear tactic? Would it not be a warning? According to this it's facts, black and white, that is what WILL happen. Wouldn't that change your mindset, if it was going to happen?Bevo wrote:

"believe in this or else eternal damnation" is a fear tactic in my book.

Not what you believe to be true, but what is true. If it was true then I would. If you believed it to be true, then no. In this situation it is not about what I believed to be true, but I was asking if it was true.Bevo wrote:

Let's say I believe a giant blue asteroid was going to crush the shit out of your house, and I "knew this to be true". And I told you if you don't pay me $10,000, my diety will let this asteroid crush your house. Would that not be a warning? According to my diety this is facts, it will happen. Wouldn't that change your mindset, if it was going to happen?
