Gun safety is not hard. We never have these problems here and in this county everyone has guns.
It's Tennessee.  Practically every household has a gun.  "Get a free rifle with the purchase of a car at JoeBob's Used Car lot."  I'm not joking.  I've seen those commercials during my business trips to Tennessee.

once upon a midnight dreary, while i pron surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot  xxx galore'. While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.

Real gun on top, Wii one on bottom (Its a 3rd party one, the official Wii one is shiny white plastic).

If I was 3 I wouldnt know the difference.  I'd say the manufacturer is partly responsible for making a children's toy that is so similar to the real thing.
Hold the phone.... Fake guns are required to have an orange barrel tip (federal law).

It's not hard to keep a gun away from the 3 year old (Place it on something 4-5ft tall and PRESTO your kid lives long enough to graduate high school!

Parents should need to pass a test and get a licence at this point. /exaggeration

A three year old Tennessee toddler, Cheyenne Alexis McKeehan, mistook a loaded gun for a Wii controller and killed herself.
See this is why we need gun control.
No, we need stupid control.

The stepfather claims that his family had been disturbed by a prowler earlier that night, and that was why the gun was out and loaded.

Which was why the gun was sitting on the table within reach of a toddler and not strapped to someone's hip?

FAIL!

Law is one thing.  Enforcement is another.  But in any case, at 3, kid didn't really care what color it was.  It looked like his toy gun.

well hold the phone here... maybe this toy gun had this prohibition waived by §1150.4 of this part.

i'm starting to think there is more to this story than what we're hearing.  this just seems so suspicious, i mean how can those parents be that braindead.

Never argued that, I was merely pointing out that the controller in question is illegal.  You can't discolor/remove the orange tip.  Does it change the fact that a little kid has died and the father is a fuckwad?  No.  And it was a little girl.

i was under the impression the red tip was more for the protection of the user to avoid being inadvertently shot by police.  i remember there was a spate of shootings years ago by the police against kids with realistic toy guns.  these laws about the orange tips followed shortly after...  i dont think the law is for kids to be able to identify the real from the fake.

I wonder if his state will pursue charges on him.  You do something stupid like that in other places your likely to be brought up on felony reckless endangerment.  Hell, some states have laws specifically addressing this situation -daddy gets to mourn from a cell...

No, you're right.  I was merely pointing out that the summabitch shouldn't even have had that controller in the first place.

i agree with you totally.  i was actually typing at ilocano... sounded like he was trying to say the kid got confused because of the similarities between the two, when in fact that toy really had no business being in that house, not to mention the loaded gun within reach of a toddler.  is a three year old even considered a toddler at that age?

Yepper, mah' son became highly mobile a long time before he turned 3.  But, an unloaded gun is essentially a rock to throw.  Regardless, you don't leave a loaded weapon around a 3 year old.

At bare minimum, the safety should have been engaged.  Should be instinct whenever you let it off your hand.

It wouldn't even surprise me if it was an unregistered gun. The guy obviously had no idea how to properly handle a gun, and really didn't have any business owning one.
