The first post I have read properly in a long time.
Dear God please let my karma one day reach 100, whether it be tomorrow or 1000 years in the future i want it to happen.

Good read and with a lot of truth in it, but I doubt the authenticity. There are some stupid technical mistakes in it and the writing style does not seem to be that of an experienced vet leaking info from his son.

You Australians are hardly involved in those 2 countries compared to us.

@ the SA80 series, over ODS and a while of OIF the military were using SA80A1s - these were terrible; fragile, prone to jamming the works. the army then sent a shitload of them to H&K who made the A2 variant, which by all reports is fucking amazing. I've played with a single-shot version of the A2 and it is unbelievably sturdy, nicely weighted and accurate as shit.

You also have a military that has many many many times the personnel and resources. Deployments are reflective of the available forces of each country. Its also a very political thing. We could send squadrons of F-18 fighters and battalions of Abrams tanks but that is a significant military commitment in which the government would want to be seen to be involved in.

Also, Australia being the significant power in our region means we are currently engaged in peacekeeping operations in places such as East Timor, the Solomon Islands and Indonesia/PNG. We are currently involved in 13 overseas operations as well as domestic border protection operations. We have a duty to put the security in our own region above the requests of allies.

TLDR; we're there so stop your bitching

I've used the F88 (Steyr AUG) many times and I find it to be a really nice weapon. Good accuracy, feels good firing, light...

This is OLD...

And the thread revive was totally unnecessary.

IMO. It's nice that H&K fixed up the L85/SA80 for GB, they could've just said GTFO, buy a G36.

idk, its a nice thread

btw we're terrible with our terminology.

SA80 is the family description for all the rifle variants.

L85A1 and L85A2 are the ARs, then theres the firesupport version (L86 LSW iirc), carbine (given to some tank crews, cant remember the name)and two types of cadet variant (L98A1 and A2).

I've had the extreme pleasure (under the worst circumstances) of playing with the L85A2 and L98A2

Brain-dead NCOs that'd gladly put your ass in real f'ing danger, for the off-chance at an upgrade on their NCOER?

Field grade officers that think they're 'Ares, God of War' because they have a copy of Sun Tzu, Rommel, and Clauzewitz sitting (unread) on their desk.. next to their Star Wars dolls?  (He must be a badass - he has Boba Fett and a Storm Trooper on his desk!!)

months of sleep deprivation, such that it takes about 15 years to 'unfuck' your ability to fall asleep normally?

Nah..  nothing like that would ever happen in the Army or Marines.

Well there are a lot of Slim Shadys so it only makes sense that you might not be the only man that is partial to frequent, intense combat.
