So I got installed an old wireless card, cause my ethernet cable is missing the securing clips on both ends () and keeps coming out both the router and my computer at inopportune moments.

I put it in my computer, then connected an antennae to it, then booted, Googled for the latest drivers after Windows tried and failed (as usual) on that front. I installed the drivers from the .exe I downloaded, and rebooted. This is the driver I used. When I rebooted, Windows couldn't connect to a network. I went into the device manager, and ..

Device manager does however say the drivers are up to date, even when I let them search for themselves or when I point them to the latest .exe.

buy a new cable.

PS: Most educated guess would be it's too old for your mobo.

Cables cost moneys, I already had the wireless card.

How can something only a few years old be outdated?

Delete system32 ?

no srsly, try it in another PC, same result = card's prob.

EDIT: Why the fuck do you want wireless in a desktop anyway?
EDIT: EDIT: Wtf kind of fail cable do you have? My clips are broken too but cables stay in place unless someone pull the cords...

protip: 1m cables are dirt cheap and if you make it yourself it's even cheaper.

Hurf durf.

Plus my cable has to go downstairs. It's at least 15m. My cables stay in place until someone pulls the cords too, which happens.

1. Buy ethernet cable roll
2. Buy ethernet cable plugs
3. Buy ethernet cable tool
4. ???
5. PROFIT (No need to buy a LAN cable again EVER!)

A full roll (enough for plenty of cables) will prob. cost the same as a finished cable and the clips are dirt cheap.

Alternatively, ask your local PC shop for two cable plugs and buy a cable tool and then redo both ends of your current cable..

Goddamnit finray if you can afford candy on saturday nights you damn well can afford a new LAN cable,,, besides wireless sucks for anything but mobile devices...

Yeah I know, but my local computer shop is at least five minutes walk away, and to get it delivered from the web would be like £10.

I'd much rather just get this working for the very rare times it cuts out for at max 30 secs.

Well, you sure that it's compatible with win7?  Not all vista drivers work w/ 7 as im sure you're aware finny.  Can you test in on another machine w/ an earlier OS?

The driver he downloaded is for Vista as far as the link he provided says...

Fingay post the model name for the wifi card

A google returned this: http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/NETWOR … -11g.shtml which is for 2k and XP

and this http://www.wireless-driver.com/download … 560188.htm for win7

but you really need a model name

Duct Tape that shit (cable) to your PC/Router.

Look on the wireless card, is there an actual model number on a sticker or laser engraved?
