All developers have to pay license to use real-world cars in their games...

The car manufacturers charge far more if their cars are to be damaged in the game...

I've heard that before, but I've no idea if it's true or just commonly accepted internet 'fact'.

I heard that that's why Gran Turismo had a difficult time getting damage in their games - I think Ferrari especially wanted their cars to look pretty no matter what.

With the amount of cars they have, you'd understand if it were the case.

Though the creators themselves said they didn't want to include damage until they've "perfected" it.

Hard to know what's fact.

I remember playing Lotus III on Amiga 500 back in the day and the cars never took damage, read somewhere (probably in a magazine, Internet was pretty nonexistent - 1993) that Lotus didn't want their cars to take damage in the game because of image, so they just slowed down.

Colin McRae Rally on the other hand was something quite different, you hit a pebble and your rear diff was fucked and your bonnet flew up.

I believe the first time I heard of it was when NFS started implementing scratches....

It's also why games like Gran Turismo doesn't have damage.. the amount of cars alone cost tons in licensing.. and if they were to add damage too.. it would be a fortune...

EDIT: This isn't myth.. I read it in a Dev. interview on either NFS or GT a few years back, hence I can't find the proof you want
