Most of the data in the game directory is stored in zip files.
Look under /mods/BF2...bunch of big zips
Under /mods/levels/[any level] two big zips
Obviously the game has to unzip these on the fly to use the data. Is this why the level loads take a long time?
Can these be unzippped for faster loads? Has anyone tried?
A previous version of Flight Simulator did this same thing. They stored scenery data in CABs but had a program that would uncompress all of them for faster loads if you could spare a few megs.
