I've been out of the loop for all this tech shit for some time now, so I don't really know what's what these days.

I'm looking to spend around 400 on a new PC, I don't mind having to build it myself and I don't need a monitor. I guess a website like ocuk is the one to use.

It comes up to 399.64 when you include VAT + shipping. Which is pretty accurate, except it doesn't have a case, or an OS. I have a case already, it's pretty old and crappy but it should be able to be gutted and replaced with shiny new parts.

I could stretch another 50 for some cheap case or a bit of extra room for other components. The main thing I'm confused about is the whole Intel/AMD/Nvidia thing and which ones are the best value for money at the moment. It seems like AMD all-round are the cheaper option.

Get a mobo that isn't Micro ATX, and also make sure the mobo that you're picking out comes with a "Core Unlocker" feature. I have that same processor that you picked out and I was able to successfully unlock it to a quad core, nearly doubling the performance.

I'll fool around and see if I can build you something a bit better.

This build is a lot better - I have the same mobo which I had success with unlocking the extra two cores. It's about 30 over, but if you can afford it, its definitely worth it.
Don't worry about an OS, you can obtain them for free.
You could save up for any case that you like, but don't skimp on the case - make sure it looks and performs how you want it to.

Like the F3 series, except even faster.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

You can get the 1TB F3 for a tenner more, or the 500GB F3 for the same price.
Can't see a huge difference between the two myself.
I'd type my pc specs out all fancy again but teh mods would remove it. Again.
