they're really spiking the market. cost of living in shanghai is going up a lot and its pushing a lot of people to migrate back westwards. What people don't realize is that china is still hugely agricultural. America devaluing their currency thus making their debt cheaper to pay off is fucking china over lol.

It's hard to imagine a government sustaining that type of expansion indefinitely.
The state assisting businesses model worked well for Japan, for awhile. They had a pretty meteoric rise then stagnation. It's funny reading old articles from the 70's and 80's regarding Japan and how they were going to "overtake the West" and how " the 21st century will belong to Japan''. I'm sure the Chinese are smart enough to know the risk of their economic policy but then again

Stuff like that won't give them an edge over the U.S., that's the sort of mismanagement that brings emerging economies down.

It's also ugly.

US dollar is dropping like a motherfucker right now. I will agree that the Yuan is seriously devalued.

I remember seeing that from my hotel room and asking our guide "WTF is that thing?" (OK, I left out the 'TF' part). All I could think was how much it must've cost to build. However, one thing I noticed while there was the amount of construction that was going on--both major and minor--regardless of location. Beijing, Zhengzhou, and Guangzhou. In the countryside on the way to Shaolin. In the countryside outside of Beijing. Didn't matter. Don't know if it's a works program, or if there's really something behind it. I suspect the former...because there were also a lot of partially complete, empty buildings out in the middle of nowhere, as well.

Its govt spending to stimulate the economy, the French have been doing this for ages and its not really worked.
It makes sense if its spent on something perenially useful or productive, less so if its on pointless buildings or swallowed by dole or healthcare.

The sad thing is that the stupid people are the loudest and tend to control the discussion.

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie announced a pilot program on Thursday that would allow private companies to run public schools in some of the state's chronically underperforming school districts.

The public-private partnership would authorize school management organizations to operate five schools, and would target some of the 100,000 New Jersey students now enrolled in 200 chronically failing schools, the governor's office said.

Read the comments. /wince
I did not read a single comment that was worth the bandwidth. Maybe I'm overreacting, but my confidence in democracy and the likelihood of this country ever properly reforming itself is dies a little every time I read the comments on news articles.
I'm not seeing any comments but yeah, the Huffington Post community is terrible.

The idea itself seems somewhat interesting though I'm curious how it will improve school performance.
I didn't just mean HP. All of the big three political blogs ( drudge, hotair, HP) are infested with mouth breathers. Same with the CNN and Fox communities. If anything I have some respect for the HP community since they make an effort to get involved rather than just sling shit all the time.

And this won't have an effect on the schools all that much. This is just another chapter in The Christie-NJEA war of 2010.

Holy fuck this Republican debate is awful. The only guy I'd vote for won't win the nomination. This might be the first election where I just don't vote.

And to the shock of millions, Ron Paul voted for the non-American company, with the Canadian Blackberry his choice of mobile device.

okay . . . i'll bet you the beer of your choice there won't be any of 'dem' debates. the incumbent won't have any challengers and outside of TV ads you won't see obama until the convention.
