A gun in your pocket doesn't make you bullet or knife-proof, I don't see the benefit - mostly.

Depends on the circumstance. I turned around once and literally had the barrel of a loaded gun on my forehead. Don't see how carrying would have helped me.

However, there are certain situations in which having a gun may help a person defend themselves. Women in particular.

While it would be nice to as Hurri said redefine all marriage licenses as civil unions the religous won't go for that either since it'll be seen an attack on religion and the sanctity of marriage rah rah. I'm just going to drop the whole gay marriage thing. Agree to disagree.

Thoughts spurred by this: http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2011/06 … staurants/ Ohio lifting restrictions on concealed carry laws and allowing people to go where they were previously banned: places with a liquor license. So now we're going to have drunk, paranoid people with concealed handguns. Fantastic.
I could understand carrying a gun if you live in Nebraska or something far away from police and everything but if you live some place like Tampa I think it's more of a hassle than a means of protection. Whenever I'm in Tampa I don't feel like I need to have a gun to protect myself. Hell even when I'm in Newark, or Jersey City I don't feel afraid enough to need a gun.

Anyway the smartest thing I've read recently about gun control in the U.S. came from the dumbest place- Huffingtonpost.

I don't agree with wanting to ban high capacity clips but he has a point that the people from different regions need to understand what guns mean to each other before either side tries to pass sweeping gun laws.

carrying a gun isnt about being afraid.  its about compensation and low self esteem

The truth of the matter is, even though certain parts of the US are relatively high compared to other parts of the world, the chances of actually needing a weapon are very low. Home invasion is probably the most likely scenario. Even in my rare situation a gun wouldn't have done anything to protect myself. In fact, it might have made a gun shot to the back of my head more likely.

Which is why I want one.

Really, home invasion is the only scenario which is remotely likely and where a gun might be useful.
Otherwise mostly no, but I don't have a problem with a woman carrying one if they want one.

I don't have a problem with defending a home, or even carrying concealed... I just don't understand why people would want to carry a heavy ass gun attached to their hip all day long unless they are a bodyguard or something. I don't understand the psychology of it. I don't feel threatened walking down the street. That's not to say that some people don't have very real worries, like abusive ex-boyfriends etc. but the majority of people who proudly proclaim that they carry seem to have "little man disease".

This is one of those cases where I don't want the government telling people they can't carry, I just wish they would figure out on their own that they aren't all John Wayne and no one is going to ask them to join a posse to hunt down a cattle thief.

Even for 'self-defence' you don't need a high capacity large calibre auto and multiple high capacity magazines.

Really I think the two parties use issues like guns and abortion to polarise their supporters and distract from the important stuff.

Well, for one it's a constitutional right... I lawfully carry every day.  I mainly carry a .32 seecamp that would fit in your wallet.  99% of the time it isn't even in the way.

                                                                  https://www.seecamp.com/LWSCherryPhone.jpg

I am not paranoid, insecure or compensating for anything.  I'm 6'3 at 240 and can handle myself.  I use the motto 'rather have and not need, than need and not have'.   I'm not necessarily against open carry, as it would take the hassle out of hiding, but concealment is a better option.  Does that mean I'd 'draw down' automatically if someone threatened me?  Hell no.  How about in Kman's instance.  Again, hell no.  People seem to carry the mentality that just because one carries a gun they can't wait to use it at any opportunity.

Here are the statistics from Florida's CWP holders.  Over 2 million permits issued with only 168 fuck ups.... Math would dictate that they're clearly in their right frame of mind.

I do agree as not allowing people to carry in bar, but a liquor store?  Sure, why not?  College/School?  Sure.  Life happens, just ask Suzanna Hupp.

Never Mind... We're on the same page.  That's why I carry the lil guy there.  I don't want to carry a full size.  Honestly if someone wants to assassinate someone they will.  Carrying isn't obviously going to stop them.

No where near close to paranoia.  Sorry, life happens Uzi.  I've found it can be a real 'toothache' not to be prepared.  I've all ready got shit set up so that if that happened to me, it would have been handled by now.

Those use so much energy, but damn if they don't provide the best lighting. I do admit CFLs are getting much better especially in terms of warm-up times, but it's still a pain in the ass to clean up if you break one. Close off the room, open all the windows, let it air out for an hour or two, come back in, pick everything up with duct tape then throw it out, then wipe everything down with water.

Compared to incandescents where you just sweep it in to a dustpan.
