There are about 12 million people in the NYC area. Between those 12 million people there are billions of personal interactions that take place. Only a bare handful of them result in any form of crime occurring. Most of the crimes committed in NYC are performed in the ghetto. I live on a quiet residential street full of Asians, Jews, Irish and Italians. I don't go into the ghetto, and people generally don't fuck with me because I'm 6'3" and over 240 lbs. The last physical altercation I was involved in took place seven years ago when I was home on leave from the Army and my brother started a fist fight at a bar. I walked out of that bar with sleeves covered in blood up to my elbows. So, I can handle myself quite well but avoid it if at all possible.13rin wrote:
The amount of money you spend on the police is irrelevant as is your '25 years or so' statement. That doesn't forecast what may/may not happen tomorrow. I'm not familiar with NY policing. Is there an police officer every 25 yards? Carrying a firearm doesn't mean one has paranoia issues.Jay wrote:
We spend millions of dollars on police salaries every year. I have never, in the 25 or so years that I've lived in New York felt that I was in danger on the street. If I did happen to have a gun on me and drew down on someone, the most likely outcome would be me getting shot by the cops. Defending your home or business? Absolutely no problem with that. The cops won't get there in time. But walking around with a concealed weapon in broad daylight for the one in a billion chance that I'll actually need it? Nah. I'm cool with our concealed carry restrictions. The people who do carry are people who actually need them, not some yokel with paranoia issues.
One in a billion? If those were actually the odds, I probably wouldn't carry.
So, long story short, I think people that carry guns are pussies afraid of their own shadow.
