cybargs, the thing is that english majors don't analyse poetry for the rest of their lives. 90% crossover into perfectly ordinary business career-paths. plus there's always law or business school after the undergraduate degree. you can quote all the dumb internet memes you like at me but the fact is i had 3 years being intellectually stimulated by philosophy and being entertained by incredible works of art, whilst you're brushing up on 'australias european context'. anyone with a brain can learn the business a-b-c after graduating, it's not some super-difficult code that nobody can get unless OMG you take modules in it at university. why do you think so many international student mongs come to westernised universities to take business-type subjects? cause they're so intellectually demanding? lol.
You do know you can read books after college as well right? And you can take part in philosophy discussions outside of college as well....
In fact you can learn anything outside of college if you want to. You're argument here is not the best you've ever made

It sucks that people have to pay through the nose just to take a class that isn't part of their degree but just generally interest them. Colleges over here rape you even if you aren't a degree seeking student and just want to sit in and learn about whatever a lecture is on.

No matter what grade I got or how tough the class was I always had respect for the professors that went out of their way to mention how anyone who isn't registered for the class could still come in and listen to the lecture if it interested them.

you can sit in any lecture here. you might get funny looks if it's a small class/year and everyone knows everyone, but still.
