I FINALLY got this badge!  Wouldn't you guys agree that this is one of the most tedious badges to get?  30 hours in AA is a lot.  I did notice one thing regarding the 12 kills IAR you need to get while in AA in order to get the badge.  Arty kills while commander count towards the 12 kills.   Here's my personal 3 golden rules of getting the AA vet badge.

1) Play as Commander while you sit in the AA

You need to do this otherwise your SPM will go to shit.  You'll earn points by being commander plus you'll be gaining time towards this badge.  In addtion, you're really helping your team by keeping the skies as friendly as possible.

2)  Use the kit you hate playing the most while you're in the AA

Personally, I'm not a big fan of playing as a Sniper.  I'll pick the sniper kit when I man the AA so it counts as time towards both AA and snipers

3) Beer

Sometimes the game can get a bit dull while you're just sitting in an AA all round while your teammates are in the thick of the action.  I find downing a few pints of your favourite brew helps to keep things interesting.

Cheers boys.  And goodluck to everyone else in getting this tedious badge.

Alright, good luck, but you might jsut get flamed :x

And besides, for the patch, the time requirements are being either removed or shortened o.O

hehe that's exactly how I tried to do it, on ghost town...I gave up eventually because, even the rounds I was winning, stupid little spec-ops n00bs would ski over and knife me

not for air defense, if you look in that list, not one mention of it.

Wouldn't it be far better (and less tedious) to use the AA vehicles to get this badge...

ok if the air assests are being lowered then the armor requirements will be lowered?

That list is still speculation, if they wre changing the requirements like that I think they would have done it on the servers when they did the last changes. You don't need to release a patch to change requirements.

Padding one of the easiest badges in BF2 is just hilarious. Even the 24 kills for the expert badge are a joke... I get them almost every day.
I'd be pissed if they lower the requirements for that badges too. It would encourage all the numbnuts to pad these badges as well, which would mean that I had to TK to get these vehicles for effective air supression.

Sure, AA was much more effective in v1.2, but even now it's strong enough to successfully compete with the best pilots... with the exception of solo-ACs, which is a exploit.

"1) Play as Commander while you sit in the AA"

Padding commander time and AA time for the badges?

"2)  Use the kit you hate playing the most while you're in the AA"

Kit padding too? Geez.

The mobile AA gun is a huge amount of fun. Be an engineer and switch to the top position after getting bombed (bombs rarely kill a full health vehicle) to repair yourself for extra points. Or be a medic and have a buddy ride the top with his wrench out, you are now the most powerful piece of armor in game. Plus the engie can toss mines out as you roll along.

How satisfying is it to take down jet after jet and chopper after chopper? Bwhahaha!!!! VERY!
(Especially for us non-pilots who avoid air maps because of the bombings.)

Become an AA veteran using the piece the right way and you will learn alot about how to fly a jet because you are basically watching them all the time. Choppers too, they all line up the same way to make the run at you. Change direction at the right time and the TV missle misses.

Keep moving! Always watch the sky, always keep your turret swinging to spot the sneaky ones. Change direction often, you will be hard to bomb. Be a SL because after killing the first three air pieces you will be out of ammo and need to call for those crates. ALWAYS shoot all 4 rockets so you can start the reload and you have a full magazine when you need it.

Become a veteran and you will learn how to drive while watching the sky. This skill comes in handy when your driving an APC or tank. Once you get the hang of it, using a tank shell to shoot down air assets (like on Oman) is sweet.

Favorite map for AA? Kubra, stay low on the canyon floor and you have the advantage. As USMC, park near the power station overlooking the airfield. As MEC, best to defend the material station but not near the flag! Everybody bombs that CP, stay away from it while you defend it.

When you run the gun right, you get tons of points and an improved K/D + SPM score.

Holy shit, thats the deal. I got 2 times 15 kills with AA and NO badge. Why not? After shooting the missiles i LEFT the AA for not being a target for everyone, then they hit the taret. The message was "lukie [Tunguska] a planewhore" but the game didn't register it as a AA kill. Again a BUG. -.-

Yeah, these badges are pretty messed up at the moment. I got my worthless aka expert AA badge after the 25th or 26th kill. As far as I know it should have been after 20 kills.

And please, if you use a mobile AA try to shoot as much planes and helos as possible or your team will be bombed to shit!
