Then of course there are the manufacturers which have lax quality standards, get a product approved and certified - then change all the materials, components and manufacturing process, or just outsource it to someone else.

certification bodies like UL, CE and ETL require quarterly visits to manufacturing sites. They are pretty dogged about enforcing their marks. You know this. I know you know this, but you are being dumb to enforce a viewpoint you only half-heartedly believe in but champion here because it gets a rise out of certain people.

They're slowly tightening up, but the last 20 years have been a shit-show. As an SAI qualified auditor who has been dealing with Chinese and Indian suppliers for over 20 years I'm fully familiar, thanks.

Same with ISO 9001 etc.

Would you be surprised to know that often they have one factory they show to the auditor, another they use for actual production?
Thats why surprise audits are so important, one auditor I know found medical products being 'sterilised' outdoors in a bucket, another removed 4,000 hammers from a factory where they'd paid $1m for bespoke assembly tooling etc.

You word it like a sarcastic extreme, but it's growing more common. Hostility at the mention of Chinese aid. Spitting vitriol about the Chinese plan to kill everybody and how the factories and health care workers are in on it. Quotes from conspiratorially-minded websites as if it were God's honest truth. Authorities have begun seizing Chinese-made faulty face masks and other protective clothing that is being exported to Australia to help halt the spread of coronavirus.

Key points:

Australia has banned face masks, gloves, gowns, goggles, alcohol wipes and hand sanitiser exports
The ABC has learnt that in recent weeks, Australian Border Force (ABF) officers have intercepted several deliveries of personal protective equipment (PPE) that have been found to be counterfeit or otherwise faulty.

One law enforcement official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, estimated the ABF had already seized 800,000 masks with a combined value of more than $1.2 million on the Australian market.

"We started seeing this stuff arriving roughly three weeks ago when news of the pandemic was really taking off," the official told the ABC.

Several European governments have rejected Chinese-made equipment designed to combat the coronavirus outbreak in recent days.

Thousands of testing kits and medical masks are below standard or defective, according to authorities in Spain, Turkey and the Netherlands.

The Dutch health ministry announced it had recalled 600,000 face masks on March 28.

The equipment arrived from a Chinese manufacturer on March 21 and had already been distributed to frontline medical teams.

Dutch officials said the masks did not fit and their filters did not work as intended, even though they had a quality certificate.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying has rejected suggestions the country's exports were faulty.

"A large number of Chinese manufacturers are working around the clock to help other countries save lives," she said yesterday.

the funniest thing is that i’m not even liberal or known for being some ‘equality, maaan’ SJW-type in my friend group. i have never supported centrist politics and certainly never written and distributed pamphlets in support of the chinese state. none of my friends would say i’m known for being tolerant or a snowflake. but dilbert writes so much utter piffling waffle about, well, just about every group who aren’t white suburban australians that it’s just impossible not to. he is a giant race cuck.

boris johnson's team are briefing the media to deflect criticism from their own efforts. BoJo's top advisor was quoted in a recent downing street meeting as saying coronavirus is fine, because if old people die off it's okay, society can take it, etc. a few days later the entire team were infected or advised to self-isolate, and he was filmed literally running away from downing street on foot, like some sort of pantomime villain.



so i have no idea why you'd trust the stories, the wink-winks and pulled-earlobes about 'a rumour', 'some intelligence we have', that they brief to the UK media, especially to the portions which are so obeisant and in service of the 'tory core'. about as reliable as trump's press junkets, to be honest. but, sure, you're immediately suspicious of china just as you're immediately trusting of BoJo's team. 'it must be based on something! white people said it!'

turns out perhaps the epidemiologists are right, and if you enforce total lockdown and extensively test, track, and isolate all cases exhaustively, no matter the extent of the pandemic, you can eventually, over several months, get on top of it. who knew? but it must be some sinister chinese plot. i guess 'yellow peril' is still a thing, eh.

i actually have no doubt that the chinese government have hidden information and played political football with the issue just as much as western govts have and are currently doing. this is a giant stressor of government's credibility and most fundamental right to exercise rule and wield authority. people will quickly revolt or foment in such circumstances. but it's funny to me that you're immediately buying the BoJo/Cummings line, when the UK govt above all governments in europe have been widely criticised and derided for their ENTIRELY suspect and dubious mishandling of coronavirus.

it wouldn't surprise me if the UK ends up with one of the highest death tolls in europe from coronavirus, behind italy and possibly spain. it will be entirely the fault of BoJo's lot who stalled and ahem'd for the first 6 weeks, pursuing a fantastical line of thinking ('herd immunity' from the offset, as a goal rather than an incidental outcome).
