This might be the first time in my life I actually fear I might not make it through something. Despite however bad things were in the past I could be almost certain I would finish school, make money, have nice things and live a productive life. Terrorism or mass shootings are just so rare and possible to prepare against or react to compared to this. No one here is safe at all especially the big city users which means everyone but Dilbert and RTHKI. Jay literally could have died last week if his immune system decided it didn't like him anymore and there was nothing Jay could have done to prevent or stop it. Pretty wild, huh?uziq wrote:

...by chinese labs of those standards groups. Or by independent labs certified by those standards groups. You know how this works, don't be stupid.Dilbert_X wrote:
One thing people probably don't know is that besides offshoring manufacturing we've also offshored standards testing.
That Chinese product with a British Standards or UL or CE mark? Made in China and tested in China.
With luck a lot of this is going to be reversed.
And you could be hit by a drunk driver next week, or get a bad batch of thc vape juice and end up like the people who died last year, or or or. Millions of ways to die. Can't let it control you.SuperJail Warden wrote:

certification bodies like UL, CE and ETL require quarterly visits to manufacturing sites. They are pretty dogged about enforcing their marks. You know this. I know you know this, but you are being dumb to enforce a viewpoint you only half-heartedly believe in but champion here because it gets a rise out of certain people.Dilbert_X wrote:
Probably do, doesn't mean they are certified to the standard they should be, don't be stupid Ken.
Then of course there are the manufacturers which have lax quality standards, get a product approved and certified - then change all the materials, components and manufacturing process, or just outsource it to someone else.
"oh well, we thought you'd like a cost saving, which we didn't pass on to you, sorry"
"Oh, you wanted it made to specification, well you should have said, now we'll have to put the price up"
Same with ISO 9001 etc.KEN-JENNINGS wrote:

They're slowly tightening up, but the last 20 years have been a shit-show. As an SAI qualified auditor who has been dealing with Chinese and Indian suppliers for over 20 years I'm fully familiar, thanks.KEN-JENNINGS wrote:

Would you be surprised to know that often they have one factory they show to the auditor, another they use for actual production?Same with ISO 9001 etc.

You word it like a sarcastic extreme, but it's growing more common. Hostility at the mention of Chinese aid. Spitting vitriol about the Chinese plan to kill everybody and how the factories and health care workers are in on it. Quotes from conspiratorially-minded websites as if it were God's honest truth. Ask for a source, and they'll either founder, spew "mainstream media" without offering any headlines or links, or straight up admit they read it on a conspiracy site while feigning ignorance that it's a conspiracy site.
So pigheaded. Young people in otherwise exceptional health dying of this, and these morons are still spreading this misinformation like choice bits of wisdom.“And then it would be ideal, because these are all young, strong men in really good health, if the infection comes then. Then they would be equipped, if it starts up again, for a really hard world championship.”

Are people still actually getting on cruises or has this thing been at sea since December.
"Zaandam, departed Mar 7." Come on …
Yeah probably not a great time to be travelling to India, and who the fuck travels half way around the world for a yoga session?British tourists trapped in India have called on the government to act quickly to bring people home.
Darren Turner, 34, and Alex Ainley, 36, travelled to northern India to take part in a four-week yoga course at the beginning of March.
They have not been able to leave the yoga school since last Saturday and Mr Turner said: "It has been a very scary time."
The Foreign Office said it was "working around the clock" to support tourists.
https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-04-01/ … d/12085908Authorities have begun seizing Chinese-made faulty face masks and other protective clothing that is being exported to Australia to help halt the spread of coronavirus.
Key points:
An official has dubbed some of the intercepted Chinese personal protective equipment "dodgy"
Spain, Turkey and the Netherlands have rejected Chinese-made protective equipment
Australia has banned face masks, gloves, gowns, goggles, alcohol wipes and hand sanitiser exports
The ABC has learnt that in recent weeks, Australian Border Force (ABF) officers have intercepted several deliveries of personal protective equipment (PPE) that have been found to be counterfeit or otherwise faulty.
One law enforcement official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, estimated the ABF had already seized 800,000 masks with a combined value of more than $1.2 million on the Australian market.
"We started seeing this stuff arriving roughly three weeks ago when news of the pandemic was really taking off," the official told the ABC.
Several European governments have rejected Chinese-made equipment designed to combat the coronavirus outbreak in recent days.
Thousands of testing kits and medical masks are below standard or defective, according to authorities in Spain, Turkey and the Netherlands.
The Dutch health ministry announced it had recalled 600,000 face masks on March 28.
The equipment arrived from a Chinese manufacturer on March 21 and had already been distributed to frontline medical teams.
Dutch officials said the masks did not fit and their filters did not work as intended, even though they had a quality certificate.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying has rejected suggestions the country's exports were faulty.
"A large number of Chinese manufacturers are working around the clock to help other countries save lives," she said yesterday.

the funniest thing is that i’m not even liberal or known for being some ‘equality, maaan’ SJW-type in my friend group. i have never supported centrist politics and certainly never written and distributed pamphlets in support of the chinese state. none of my friends would say i’m known for being tolerant or a snowflake. but dilbert writes so much utter piffling waffle about, well, just about every group who aren’t white suburban australians that it’s just impossible not to. he is a giant race cuck.KEN-JENNINGS wrote:

why is the story any more sinister or malign than, say, america producing a shitload of defective reagent tests? it may surprise you to learn that corners are being cut in the race to develop and test a vaccine, too.
Right, so you're an expert in international manufacturing sourcing as well as a qualified psychoanalyst?uziq wrote:
