New computer case. Not planned but nice upgrade. Old case was tiny, this one is like 1/2 of a big tower but still much bigger. PSU cables reach, barely.
And it has a USB-C front port which my mobo does not have a connector for.

it's nice having a bit of working space.

my planned upgrade—whenever the heck that happens—involves either this atrocious 2000s dinosaur that's somehow still at or near the apex of air cooling stats, or take a heat hit for the smaller and markedly less awful-looking, earlier 2000s lian li mid tower (if that wasn't one of the things i lost from storage).

either way, the half-truth is i got it for "free." cost in new build: $0, apart from any switches that may need replaced. if guests don't buy that excuse, i can just claim freeganism.

Top loaders or die. Never going back to front loaders

top loaders are by far the most common in asia, actually. but i don't like them. they don't dry well (if at all).

really need a dryer at home for 4 months of the year here. especially for towels, bedding, etc.

i had a top loader in one of my temporary accommodations in korea and i actually ended up losing a bunch of clothes, delicates and linens especially, to mould one summer as the machine would just output ungodly amounts of heat in the wetroom it was in (common place for washing machine in small apartments) and had no drying function.

maybe there are top-loaders that have excellent heat pump dryers, i don't know, i'm not of the mind to pay $2000 for them.

I was sold at 'ULTRA FINE BUBBLE'
Is that a washer or washer-dryer? I think washer-dryer's are generally problematic.

A shared house I was in had a heat pump dryer which output the condensed water to a bucket, very neat.

Houses here generally exhaust the damp air into the room then extract it by a wall-fan, ducting it outside is nearly unheard of.
There are various duct systems which make it possible wherever its situated, mostly.

it's a washer-dryer, and yeah i know you have to spend a fair wedge to get one that doesn't suck terribly.

a $1000 bucks for 8 poxy litres of capacity should be good enough. i have more faith in japanese tech companies than korean ones anyway (do not get a samsung fridge or washer, trust me).

yeah, i had my mould damp problem during a very humid korean summer spent in a distinctly 1980s building in the military sector of seoul. one of those 'shabby chic ex-industrial neighbourhoods' where all the amenities and conveniences were very improvised. who knew that crappy buildings built to house GIs 50 years ago wouldn't appoint the best laundry rooms?

everything in my new place seems extremely well thought out in regards to sunlight, moisture, ventilation, etc. numerous small panels on the wall of every room that can be depressed/popped out with little computer case fan-style things in them to ventilate the room.

Picked up a new (to me) watch this week. Was a good deal and I love the look. Rolex Polar Explorer II. Will upload pics once I get it resized for my little baby wrist

this comes up just as i swapped out my parents' decade-old front-load washer for a top-load they bought. front-load can actually last about as long as top-load with some low-effort preventative maintenance and some luck. better clean, less energy. put it on an appliance platform and you don't even have to bend over to load/unload. highly recommend. it seems they forgot a lot of the reasons they were sold front-load in the first place.

for mine, i do the monthly cleaning cycle thing and sometimes run vinegar.

leaving the lid popped open a bit helps prevent some really nasty growth in the first place, but you have to convince people not to close every appliance door they see (in a home with no reason to).

if i was replacing mine, i'd consider speedqueen. the less time i spend dinking around with appliances, the happier i am.

Apparently road-registering a half-track is problematic, I would have to register as a farmer and could only then drive it from field to field on legitimate farming business, not going to the shops for the paper.

A White Scout Car seems the next best option.

Fuel consumption at 8MPG is a lot better than 3MPG for the half track.
