So.. there are some things I would change about the Ranking system that would make the game IMO much better and more satisfying. Alas I don't work for EA or Dice and I don't think they would listen to a good idea anyways.
There's many different ways they could have done it, but they took the easy way out...and then didn't do a good job of it.
The initial rank system was ludicriously stupid. It virtually ensured that only the |33t ub3r h4rdc0r3 g4m3r5 with no life, wife, or tan would ever get to the highest ranks.
The new system makes it easier to attain rank, but they may have made it too easy, as you said. But the good thing about this is, players that cannot sit at the computer form 5-6 hours per day now have something to look forward to, instead of grinding it out for months on end to get one stripe.
I dunno, I personally would have liked to have seen a dual rank format....if you have
n score,
n hrs as a squad leader or commander and
n teamwork points, you move into the commissioned branch as an officer. Something along those lines...obviously not meant to be JUST like the military, but then again, neither is this game.
On a side note, someone explain to me how basic pistol is 5 kills...but basic knife is 7?
To all the |33t g4m3r5 whining that the rank requirements are too low, don't despair. You've still got
medals that you can work for, that those of us with lives outside BF2 will NEVER see, and the requirements for them are still as asinine as ever. 20,000 kills with a helo? 10,000 with an airplane? 30,000
teamwork score for the medal of valor? The sharpshooter infantry medal's requirements are insane, because all the expert badge's requirements are included. So, the crackheads that play for days on end can go after medals while the rest of us get SOMETHING for our troubles.
EA/DICE took the easy way out with the ranking system, tying ranks to score and basically nothing else...actually creating by themselves the stat-padding problem they had to eventually deal with. Plus, allowing ranked servers to be so loose with map rotation and other things (autobalance off, 24/7 of a certain map, knife and pistol only, etc) didn't help matters.
