im wondering if only Iam bothered about ranks after patch...

for examle > 1st. sgt (no one noticed what requrements will be)

segt. major do not need BASIC KNIFE/PISTOL etc.

so why higher rank have less requrements than 1st. sgt? ....

I believe the needed badges for higher rank is a good idea however they did not expand it enough. It should also include certain ribbons for higher ranks.

I also believe the point totals choosen for ranks are exteremly arbitrary and wrong. They point spread just doesn't make sense. They could have easily made it a nice progression with a few ranks easier to get and then curve upwards for the rest. A simply supply and demand bell curve that we all learn in high school could have told them that. Apparently many of them forgot basic High School math.

At the current rate some extremely vigilant gamers are accelling point wise the ranking system would have to be outragious to stop them. So ignore them and simply go with a point/rank system that is catered to the normal player. Most of us on this forum fit into that category.

So.. there are some things I would change about the Ranking system that would make the game IMO much better and more satisfying. Alas I don't work for EA or Dice and I don't think they would listen to a good idea anyways.

because you have to already have 1st sgt to get the higher ranks.  Therefore you would already have met the lower requirements from the previous ranks...

There's many different ways they could have done it, but they took the easy way out...and then didn't do a good job of it.

The initial rank system was ludicriously stupid.  It virtually ensured that only the |33t ub3r h4rdc0r3 g4m3r5 with no life, wife, or tan would ever get to the highest ranks.

The new system makes it easier to attain rank, but they may have made it too easy, as you said.  But the good thing about this is, players that cannot sit at the computer form 5-6 hours per day now have something to look forward to, instead of grinding it out for months on end to get one stripe.

I dunno, I personally would have liked to have seen a dual rank format....if you have n score, n hrs as a squad leader or commander and n teamwork points, you move into the commissioned branch as an officer.  Something along those lines...obviously not meant to be JUST like the military, but then again, neither is this game.

On a side note, someone explain to me how basic pistol is 5 kills...but basic knife is 7?

To all the |33t g4m3r5 whining that the rank requirements are too low, don't despair.  You've still got medals that you can work for, that those of us with lives outside BF2 will NEVER see, and the requirements for them are still as asinine as ever.  20,000 kills with a helo?  10,000 with an airplane?  30,000 teamwork score for the medal of valor?  The sharpshooter infantry medal's requirements are insane, because all the expert badge's requirements are included.  So, the crackheads that play for days on end can go after medals while the rest of us get SOMETHING for our troubles.

EA/DICE took the easy way out with the ranking system, tying ranks to score and basically nothing else...actually creating by themselves the stat-padding problem they had to eventually deal with.  Plus, allowing ranked servers to be so loose with map   rotation and other things (autobalance off, 24/7 of a certain map, knife and pistol only, etc) didn't help matters.

hello captain logic!
It would also appear that because you can skip the 1st seargent rank and acquire sgtmajor without the knife badge, that you are trading time for the rank rather than a badge?  Who knows?  Who cares?

The current rank system certainly dis-incentivises those of us with real lives. I got to gunny and *might* make 1st Sarge (after I re-earn my pistol badge...grrrrr), but I'm NEVER going to make master or higher...just won't happen. I have a career, a wife, children and A LIFE.

Not only are some of the badges/medals/ribbons requirements insane, they completely dis-incentivise as well. I know I'm never gonna get some of 'em, so why even bother?!

I look at our favorite whipping-boy, BlaZiN.uk and realize it will NEVER even try...

Yes. Those of us that have lives outside the game will gain points at a moderate rate. But many just like me will eventually get to a higher rank. I know I "will" get 1st Sergeant soon enough and then over time Sergeant Major. I also know it will take a significant amount of time to get there. Probably a good portion of 2006. I never plan on getting to 2nd Lt. and most normal casual gamers would probably agree. 200,000 points is a bit more than we are willing to invest with lives, jobs, wives and kids.

However many of the awards are in within our reach. There are many ribbons well within our capability and also a few medals. I know personally I am going to cherish each time I get one of them because it won't happen often and I know I've really deserved them.

Yes the Ranking system is broken. The points choosen for each break point were done by darts with monkeys throwing them. The logic department of EA/DICE in this game is controled by feline house cats fed catnip. I agree with all statements of the stupid crap that they did to this game. But even with all the crap I still find it very enjoyable which does say something about the game.

So keep at it men and women of BF2S. State your own pace and say fuck you to anyone who says you are too slow. Just have fun.
