Well, I HAVE my WCR, and almost 150 hours of command to go along with it. All I can say is that if I run around fighting (or even worse, dying), I can actually get a NEGATIVE command score if I dont open my command screen (yes, I've been as low as -2 at one time). It took me a while to figure it out, but as best I can tell, you WILL get more points from doing nothing but commanding than if you run around capping flags/whatever.
My worst command score ever WAS when being a fighting commander on Daqing oilfields, I managed a grand total of 2 points in the entire round (commander score). Dont tell me that my team on AVERAGE managed only 2 point pr man. While I can remember the exact scores, I'm pretty sure that wasn't the case.
Fo rthe fun of it. Try getting two high ranked players in the same game, on opposing sides. One commanding each team. One goes fighting commander, never opening his screen except to give supplies/vehicles on request, the other goes total commander... If you want to make it TOTALLY even match, have neither commander use the arty. This way the team has to get ALL the kills, and thus score ALL the points (which in THEORY should make for a higher command score, as your teammate will get points for those kills the arty would otherwise wipe out). Watch the difference in their scores. I'm pretty sure I'm right about this, but I have no stone cold evidence, and it's tough to proove my point without fraps ot something else to support it.
As someone said, you get no score for capping flags/killing. This is also not quite true (but almost). It still shows up on your stats, but you get no points to count towards your total score in the round, if you were commander while scoring those points (which is why some people resign as commander when they score, and then apply again after scoring, damn padders). However, A friend of mine got his vet repair WHILE being commander, so I know for a fact that you still get the stats even if you miss out on the actual round score. So you just get the points AFTER the round has finished. Some goes for arty kills, they still count towards your total kills, and you get points for that AFTER the round has finished.
