I've gotta wonder about EA's research team when it comes to guns.  This is something that's bugged me since the day I bought the game over a year ago.  I know it's just a game and they can take liberties with damage and such, like the G3 and the M24.  In the real world they shoot the same ammo, but in the game, the M24 does a lot more damage, I can live with that, cause everyone would be packing a G3 if it did that much damage.

But one thing that has been glaring at me in the face since I got the game, is the USMC engineer shotgun, the M11-87.  They made it a pump shotgun in the game, when in real life an 11-87 is a semi-automatic shotgun.  Just take a look at this link if you don't believe me http://world.guns.ru/shotgun/sh24-e.htm

Don't get me wrong, I love using the gun in the game, but it's just a glaring mistake to me.  I know they meant to call it an M870, which is a pump shotgun in the real world.

I've also gotta point out that the info is wrong on the BF2S weapon guide.  In the "In the 'real' world" section they call the 11-87 a pump shotgun as well.

I admit I'm a serious gun nut, I'm actually a gunsmith.  I know this is just pointless bitching, but I had to get it off my chest.  I could do a whole other post on the sights of the MEC pistol, but I won't bore you with them, lets just say that in the real world, those sights go against every rule of pistol shooting, and I don't know where EA got the idea to design em like that.

Okay, the American Engineer gun isn't pumped action. We agree with you. Also, there is no power plant in Dalian in the real world, the Wake Island airstrip takes up about half of the island, and the USMC and China aren't currently in war. BF2 may be a game to simulate war, but it is fiction. So don't worry about the gun.

Yeah I know, but the gun does exist in the real world.  It just bugs me is all.  It really is an easy fix they could have done in any patch, just change the name from M11-87 to M870.

And I can't help that I'm a stickler about guns, they are my livelyhood

I doubt Dice even knows they are wrong. While I suppose it would be better if they could get it right, it would be for the better. At least they are making the pistol zoom in like a sniper rifle or having a Bazooka as an automatic anti-tank gun.

Lol, that's bothered me since the first time I played the game.  It really dosen't matter but you just gotta wonder how they could have missed that when they made the game....

This game is not based on any realistic appraisal of current military equipment .. not even slightly. Take BF2 aircraft as a prime example. Moreover, do you want this game to be more realistic? I love the 'arcade' style flying in this game, thats why i play it.

Really? Then why is every gun in this game a gun in real life?  And as for the aircraft do you really think they needed to make that realistic? nobody would fly because it would not be fun.  The era of the dogfight is over so flying planes in this game you would be flying b-2's how fun would that be?  All going back to the "arcade style fighting"

They could of replaced the current shotgun with an M3 Bennelli, that's a pump action.

Did you actually read what this post is about?

Yes the hardware is current and up-to-date, however, the performance of the aforementioned weapons is not based in reality. As I noted, I like the fact that this game is not a simulation.

Two further points,

1. We are in agreement

2. You are an idiot

Actually, it's a select fire.  It can be both pump action and semi auto.  They really only added the pump feature because specialized shotgun rounds, like beanbags and door breachers, don't have the energy to cycle the gun in semi auto mode.  The SPAS-12 has the same feature.

Like I said earlier, all it is in a name problem, they wouldn't have to change anything in the game except the name for it to be right, it's not an 11-87, it's an 870.

Hey, I feel you dude (fellow gun nut) and this sort of thing bugs me too.

If it bothers you enough did you know you can change the text in the English.utxt file so that in-game it would say M870 instead of M11-87? It's not much of a fix but at least you'd have the satisfaction of knowing your version of the game was a little more accurate

I think that the point about the gun being wrong is a good one. Yes it's a game, and they could just change the name of the gun to the M870 as suggested, but it all goes back to one thing.

If you're going to do something, you should do it right.
