I guess that would make me an exception?
I use the sniper kit on Karkand - I especially favour the SVD on that map so maybe there are more ground pounders than you think....

Lt. Col. Here, 11.66% in TOTAL Vehicles at BF2Player and 13% here (go figure); I use all kits equally and only play full 64's. Everyone plays different.

Rank don't matter, nor what anyone else thinks. If you are having fun, then you are the best player you can be.

WTF dude, you suck.

I got 48% of kills on foot. I like to think of my self as a well rounded player. 30300 kills with assault rifle.

The reason why you see so many people with high ranks (and I mean really high like Colonel+) using almost exclusively vehicles is that this is the only thing that makes them be so high up. They find something where they can get many points out and do that all the time... vehicle whoring... medic whoring... whatev
But of course there are also just normal players who just invested some time... and even the vehicle whores are not per definition bad... some just have fun doing that and like it... but it's those who tk for it who are bad. For example... I met this guy from Germany who was some General... hes name was something like Frankenstein(ger) or something... but whatev... he was like the best goddamn Apache pilot I ever encountered... he was pilot but still managed to kill people with the Hydras like there was no tomorrow not like the normal single flyers, who actually don't really cut it... but yea, he wasn't one of those who fly you to the edge of the map so they can fly alone... actually, he initially was alone in it (Ghost Town) already in action when I asked for a pickup and instantly got picked up Nice
I usually get at least one kill per rocket in an apache..... but thats become boring so I give all the kills to my gunner if he's good, if he's not, I only let him kill infantry and i take out all armor, cuz If my gunner dont know how to use a TV missile I wont chance our lives by leaving that tunguska up to my mediocre gunner.

I polay on Warlord and Ghost-Town, if you see =CL0CKW0RK=0WN@GE, you have found me and i will be more than happy to teach while I fly, BUT YOU ALSO MUST USE COMS!!!!!!!!!

Being a gunner means you have to look aT WHAT YOUR PILOTS LOOKING AT but this is all for another post.

I refuse to use armor as I beleive it takes less skill to camp a flag with a peice of armor, than it does to circle a flag at high speed while capping. The difference between ARMOR WHORES AND HELO WHORES.... is helos dont camp.... they always move, theyre weak as in they blow up easily. But once you master the flying part, its all about hooking up your gunner, and thats what I'm all about. If you see me waiting for the APACHE in ghost-town, let me get it, I will take you to the top of the list when you press TAB. I am not a stingy pilot unless theres no time to line my gunner up..... CRAP!!!!!! THISWAS ALL FOR ANOTHER POST!!!

(Haven't checked there stats but whenever I see them they are on foot and fighting superbly.)

Also plus.TheBlackPanther is an excellent infantry player. Unfortunately he got wiped otherwise he would be colnel by now.

High ranked players do usually use tanks, jets, helis yes. However they also spend a hell of a lot of time on this game, they are usually high ranked because they are half decent and spend over 1,000 HOURS on this game. My buddy barney_t_dinosaur is probably as good as the best players on the ground and in some vehicles, however he has a life and so his hours are poor. if he spent 1000 hours on this game he would be one of the best.

It really depends on the map. Im 4000shy of 2ndLt, and have never used a tank/apc on any city map. Not even the choppers on sharqi. Karkand is the worst map in the game for gameplay (yes, I learned after 59hours on it ), Kubra comes top though.
City maps, im a flat out Infantry player. Non city maps, I flat out ground pound in APC/Tank, and occasionaly like to piss off the enemy by roaming with an AT team in a jeep. Thats so much fun Especially knocking out helis. Took out a BH yesterday with a TOW

High ranks tend to use vehicles, because they have the experience with them and can kick ass with them. If you wana win the game, do you want 2 Colonels use a heli or a Pvt and a Cpl? I know which Id prefer. I get nervous whenever im in a transport heli with anything less than a Gunnery Sgt driving it, because Ive been in my fair share of crashes.
They are probably also after the medals and awards, maybe to earn the medals more than once in the case of the armour/heli/jet combat medals.

I guess it depends on what you consider high ranked, and what you consider as a "non-infantry" player.

Sure, I know a few high ranked players that are very average on the ground, having spent most of their play time in vehicles. However I also know a few "vehicle whores" that are also quite deadly on the ground.

Personally, I've spent around 450 out of my 1300 hours in vehicles, but I would consider myself an Anti-Tank specialist having had the AT rocket in my hands for over 300 hours.

I usually prefer to be on foot on full rotation servers (although "server rotation" is a bit of a joke since v1.3...). On the other hand there are plenty of high ranking players that play Karkand almost exculsively. While this might be very sad (in my opinion), they certainly can't be labeled "non-infantry"

So in conclusion I'd say a definite "maybe" - I think the distribution of "non-infantry" players would be quite even across the Global Score leaderboard. Really "high ranking" just means "lots of time played".

Not necessarily.  But I think that some of them are hackers -- don't know which ones, but when you compare the # of downloads of popular BF2 hacks to the number of BF2 players, it stands to reason that hackers have a better chance of getting the top scores than the average player (if they are smart about it)....

I don't think so, it is a lot easier to get a lot of kills in vehicles but on foot you can also get a ton of teamwork points. I say it's kind of balanced.

From what I can gather...yeah. Many top players are whoring shamelessly for superior firpower. But then, who can really blame them? That's where the points are.

There are groups that play seamlessly as cohesive units. But the other 95% of players are out hoofing it solitary, or occasionally hooking up with their squad leader to capture a point. Ground pounders are easy pickin's for the folks in the heavy gear. The game is inherently flawed, in that squad play SHOULD be rewarded, but isn't necessarily; therefore, plane/helo/tank whores.

I know it's been said over and over, but it is just a game. It's cool to be competitive, but I have had rounds where I don't score many points at all (actually, more than I care to admit), but it was more fun to be immersed in the environment than to be racking up easy kills.

In all honesty, I'm not so good at BF2. But it's fun, a nice diversion from the wife and kid, and it fulfills my innate male need for explosions and simulated gunplay. Other people may dig on the padding and the whoring, but since the game is exploitable and flawed, why not take advantage of it if that's your thing?

I'm new to the game, so I suppose I don't really know the advantages or disadvantage of vehicles, but I do know that I have always hated attack vehicles in games. I'm a ground pounder. Always have, always will be.

I know it takes good skill to be good with a vehicle(god knows i can't drive anything on bf2) but I have the most fun when there are 4-6 guys running together, weaving in and out of street alley, and taking flags. Its just a rush.

Overall I'd have to say yes, it's more likely than not you'll find the high-rankers in armour, a helicopter or plane. Plus of course you've got the guys addicted to command.

As far as their standard goes, no, rank is zero guarantee of their playing ability; it's not hard to outscore colonels and higher on the ground, even using a 'sub-par' kit like sniper when they're medic.

Infantry other than karkand is really boring. Mashturr is not bad but Sharqi is just crap.
What are you smoking? Sharqi's my favourite infantry map. Got both my Expert Sniper Combats on it!

Infantry-only Sharqi's going to be da bomb! It's got the lot: good visibility for some long-range vistas (unlike on Kark where the dust sets the limit), lots of medium- and short-range stuff; varied terrain/levels; multiple buildings with good overviews of flags. Plus the TV station is one of the classic defence/attack points in vanilla BF2; makes Hotel on Karkand feel like an afterthought.

Karkand sucks ass IMO, although having to play it again recently I did get to like it a bit more than I used to. I can see why you think so highly of it though, with 400+ hours playing it *shudder*

Don't lose that. That's the best part of the game for many of us.

id consider myself both a high point player and a chopper whore. but i do love to play infantry. and the reason my three favorite maps are karkand sharqi and mashtuur city are because those are infantry maps (sharqi is in question, but i would put it with the infantry maps) and occasionally i dont want to be in a chopper or even have the temptation (sharqi again, but it's hard to get the chopper there cause everyone wants it), so i play heavy infantry from time to time to get away from it all.

my thing is this: yes, a lot of high point players have heavy vehicle time, but why blame them because they took the time to get good with that equiptment and they earned a lot of points that way? If they have the skill to do it effectively, who am i to blame them?

Some of you guys really think using a vehicle and keeping a good ratio is the easiest thing in the game, Don't you? Getting to the vehicle is a harder fight than you'll ever face on the ground. Getting through tkers and guys that want to force tks is the first step. When you're finally into the combat zone, you've got a lot more to worry about than you may think. AA, TOWs, ATs and .50 cals all just waiting for you to pass overhead/drive by so they can ambush you. Unexperienced vehicle users will bail out because they can't find a way to get repairs/kill the aggresor. The high-ranked vehicle users know what's going down and how to fight the situation. I dare any one of you people that think: "Oh, they get a good ratio in X vehicle, so it must be SO easy" to keep the same ratio as the guys you down on for being "whores" and then we'll see what you say.
