I really enjoy the game MUCH more when I'm in a squad that works as as a team, and on a team that has a good commander. Unfortunately, the personal scoring in the game really favors pure shooters over team players.

Right now you get two points for a kill, but just one point for a flag capture. Taking out an enemy arty, or fixing your side's UAV trailer also yields just one point, and they take a while.

Here are my suggestions on how to change the scoring to encourage teamwork:

1. Make a flag capture worth four points, and a flag defense worth three.
2. If you capture or defend the flag that your squad leader indicated, that gives a 50% bonus.
3. Fixing or destroying a command object is worth three points, again with a 50% bonus if the commander or squad leader ordered it.
4. Squad leaders get 1/5 of a point for every point a squad member scores. This makes up for the time they spend managing the squad.
5. Squad leaders get an additional 50% bonus for the points scored if the order came from the commander.
6. Commanders end up with a higher score too because the team average score goes up.

I'm sure the numbers I suggested need tuning, and you folks will likely have other suggestions to improve teamwork at both the squad and team level. Please post your ideas too.

I like your idea in concept, even people who don't care to play for the team but only for points, would be unintentionally helping the team just to score up.  That would be a side bonus to the concept.  Here are my suggested tweaks to your concept:
1. Make a flag capture worth four points, and a flag defense worth three.
                                                                                                two.
2. If you capture or defend the flag that your squad leader indicated, that gives a 50% bonus.
I guess they could code this somehow, but don't think they will, I like the idea though
3. Fixing or destroying a command object is worth three points, again with a 50% bonus if the commander or squad leader ordered it.
Agree here, also destroying a command object with c4 should count toward the explosive ordinance badge
4. Squad leaders get 1/5 of a point for every point a squad member scores. This makes up for the time they spend managing the squad.
Instead of 1/5, an squad leader bonus of the average of the rest of the squad, 4 members, 20 points each, 20 bonus to the squad leader, or something like squad member average/2
5. Squad leaders get an additional 50% bonus for the points scored if the order came from the commander.
    same answer as #2
6. Commanders end up with a higher score too because the team average score goes up.
I command a lot, so I really like this idea!
Good thoughts, don't see it happening, but it would be nice nontheless

A few posts like this a while ago and like in those I agree that there should be some compensation for these types of teamwork duties esspecially for the unsung hero the Squad Leader that does their job as Squad Leader.

Can't argue with squad leader buffs.. >.> it's hard leading a squad, it's why I normally leave it up to more competent and confident players. Well, unless I find a particularly smart and talkative group that really fights the good fight.. Then i don't mind squad leading that much. If these benefits work the way they seem to, I might JUST consider being a commander or a squad leader more often, instead of being on the bottom and following orders. I might not have much backbone in a really hairy situation, but I got a good head on my shoulders, and that in and of itself qualifies me for leadership in BF2..

Shame not many commanders or squad leaders can say the same. Heck, more often the commanders I see are people who can't fight themselves, let alone tell others to fight. It's REALLY depressing seeing your commander get wasted by standing in the open all the time. Sometimes makes me regret having the responsibility of darting out there, reviving him and trying to coax him back in under cover.

But I guess that just goes to show how people don't understand what being revived means.. It means you screwed up once, the medic pulled your fat out of the fire, and you got another chance. So as a common courtesy you should at LEAST run back under cover to take careful planned shots instead of hasty frontal assaults with full auto.. Which may or may not work depending on how aware you are of your surroundings.

That said, a smart medic is always good too.. He has to understand what's acceptable risk in a revive attempt.. I mean sure, the heal bag's always nice.. But it's a tad overrated in the grand scheme of things too many newbies go out there with the medic kit and intend to kick everybody's ass with the L85A1.. I should know.. Because I was one of the first three thousand people to get it earlier this year, (When my score was that high) but gradually I realized that even with more well rounded armaments, and better accuracy, there's no substitute for a good squad.

That is why, I think revamping the scoring system is the first step to making things more kosher all around.. It would force the guntoting maniacs and new players to stick with assault, or whatever specialty job they wanted and do the job they're made for there, while cooperative players use the supportive kits and help turn the tide of the battle.

Though, it really makes me wish there was some kind of in-game schooling system for new players.. There used to be one for Natural Selection a long time ago, to keep wannabe marines from losing their nerve and freaking out in combat. Practice with standing targets, moving targets, attacking targets, and a stealth course.. Really smooth stuff. Because nothing's more fun than a stealth knife kill on that dangerous skulker who didn't see or hear you coming..

That brings up another interesting point.. Does ANYBODY in this game but the high scorers use their ears? It doesn't seem like it, as I keep seeing people charge in while the noise of local grenades going off, and machinegun fire cut through the area. Hell, I'm one of those types who waits around a corner and listens to oncoming footsteps before darting out and wasting everything there with full auto.

It's not enough to just make a person sculpt themselves to a new system by exposing themselves to the new system.. Somebody has to reach in there and SQUEEZE the stupid juice out of them..

Like so.. *Strangles a 0.50 K/D kamikaze spec ops player*
