This is 1 example of how games can take a person's control into an act of crime and waking up after, saying: "I would never do such a thing, what have I done?"
I had alot of them moments, and i have a punch bag just outside in the garage but it wasn't the same as hitting the computer.

In the heat of moments inanimate objects just seem to really piss me off, like if i bang my head on a desk I'l scream at it,go and get my weights and smash it up.

I can't help it,it's a problem i have.

This saddens me terribly. I have a little guy at home, and while it can be VERY frustrating to leave a game because he's crying or something, he ALWAYS comes first. The game is nothing. This may explain why my stats suck as bad as they do, but I'd rather leave the game or get spawnraped repeatedly than neglect my child.

I hear a lot of stories about people you get abusinve over video games. It's a further symptom of our inability to reconnect with the world once we get involved with the world on the screen. So sad.

As for this fucktard who punched his kid in the face: That little girl probably wanted him to play with her, hug her, just acknowledge her in some way. She pulled the game cords out, I am SURE by accident, and he responds by punching a defenseless little girl in the face--TWICE. And you know she used to smile at him, and want to be near him, and loved him unconditionally as little ones do...and he kills her. Over a video game.

Jeez.

More fodder for Jack Thompson, who will probably blithely ignore the shock emanating from the gamer community. I wonder if the guy was on Prozac or anything...

But watch this event get twisted and warped for political purposes.

...except if I get pissed I'll pound the desk, my knee, or go to the garage and whack at the bibbity-bobbity-bibbity-bobbity noise-making thing dangling from an old board. I've never struck a living creature because of game or instrument misfortune.

But it is fun to tease people while they play World of Warcraft.

Ok that is just fucked up. I can understand getting pissed at your friend/brother if they do something like that (usually a good wedgie or groin kick is in order), but come on man, 17 month old baby?? There is no reason to flip out like that.

And there is nothing wrong with wearing Body Armor under normal circumstances. What the law is saying is that you can't use it if you commit a crime. Basically another way to give you some extra years in jail if you decide to use body armor during a felony.

A quick google search found this... not sure if they are related, but kind of ironic his "filmography"

That is sad, also those politicians will use this as another example of why games are dangerous

The guy has rage issues. Case solved. The child could have been doing anything annoying, it's got nothing to do in particular with the game. It happens all the time (ever heard of shaking a baby?), this one is just special to you guys 'cos of the game element, but the game element really has nothing to do with it.

Man thats so sad, I can't count how many times that exact same thing has happened to me(one of my kids when they were little tripping over the control cords and either pulling them out or pulling the game console down to the floor) My youngest is 3 and she just did this very thing yesterday. I have yelled at them for it and I felt bad for even doing that afterwords. Myself and all my kids are big gamers they come by it honestly from me.

Sorry to ramble it's just I've been in that situation a few times and I'm just so thankful I can control myself not to even consider punching them. Although like I said I am ashamed of myself for the times I yelled at them for it. Something like this really makes you think.

I've a feeling she didn't know her husband really well. No sane person ever directs that level of violence on their offspring. Ever. He must have had bad violence in his past. Or a severe mental disorder. Both, probably.

I feel this really hit at home with me because in the heat of the moment, I have thrown a control across the room in blind rage. I have a baby due any day now and I do not want to continue to have this temper while my child are present. I would never ever want to have a game create that sort of situation. Games, no matter how fun, are simply just "games."
Unleashing your rage on an inanimate object is a completely different problem than inflicting violence on your children. These don't necessarily go hand-in-hand, so you probably don't need to worry about the safety of your children - provided you your self don't have violent history (e.g. abusive parents), or some mental disorders. Take this from another father with temper.

Which ofc doesn't mean you needn't be aware of your impulses. Having a child witness that kind of an outburst can be frightening for him/her, and certainly not a good example.

I'd say this article was worth posting, then.

It's strange that the most violent and insane crimes are often committed in the US.. Why is that? Extreme things like that happens in my country as well, but it's not at all as usual as in the US.. I think the US government should spend more money on psychiatric care.
