I can't understand admins who put in more than 2 reserved slots on their servers. It's fine that they want to reserve slots for people who pay, or for clan members. But really... If you reserve ONE slot, then when this is taken, the next time someone leaves the game there's one slot open.. AND THIS GETS RESERVED !
Ie: if you have a 64 man server, and reserve 2 slots, you have the 62/64 (2) notation in the menu when viewing the server in question. If someone on ehte reserved list joins, it'll change to 63/64 (2), and still noone but people on the reserved list can join... Now when a guy NOT on the reserve list LEAVES the game, you're back to the inital starting point....

And with people playing.. let's say 2 hours at a time (accounting for switching servers, CTDs, eating/shitting/pissing breaks etc.) any 64 man server would have a player leave every two minutes or less. So even if you want 16 people to join at the same time, at MOST the LAST guy would have to wait half an hour to join. On most servers people leave a LOT more frequently than every two minutes anyway, so in reality, it's 10 minutes tops.

So why would any sane person have more than two slots reserved ? I can understand why people want TWO slots in stead of one. Both to allow for fater joining of "reservists", and to ensure than the teams wont get unbalanced by one team always not having the last man (the 64th player). But really.... I've seen servers with 16 reserved slots ! You might as well put up a password protected server instead !

I dont mind paying for a slot on a very good server that plays the maps I like, especially if it's a large server with many players on it... I LIKE lots of players. But if 16 slots are reserved on a 64 man server, that's 48 players playing usually. Often times much less because like me a LOT of people like the full servers, and thus the server depopulates much faster and becomes boring. If I want a "high points" round, I'll go LOOK for depopulated servers, I dont want to PAY for a server slot where I dont get the action I like.

And for people who DONT pay for a slot, if the server is at say 54 people with only 48 "public" slots (never seen that, but it should theoretically be possible), a player now has to wait for SEVEN people to leave before being able to join... I just go look for another server.

Just my opinion... For any server admins out there... Think about it. You loose out of a lot of action by reserving too many slots.

Reserving 16 slots is quite a few.....i could see maybe 5 or 6 at most.  Maybe they have so many reserves so that it pretty much pays for the server?

Yeah I never understood the mass-reserve-slot thing.

There is no point in reserving slots at all.
If a member want to join, you just make some room when they come on TS, simple.

We even make room for other clan members if they come on TS first.

We just kick the person with a negative or low score who usually isn't in a squad.

Partly agree - but 2 slots could not be enough on popular servers...  Assuming they actually had 16+ people on the list that could use reseved slots - what about if they were a clan/group of friends that arranged to play at a set and popular time - if the server was full, and the game rocking, you could easily not get people drop out very often (I've been on servers were no one has left for over an hour - I know because a friend was trying to join us).

On a 64, I'd probably go for having a min of 2 and a max of 10 - but not more than 1 slot per 2 or 3 registered players. It depends how many players that server had on the payed up list - if it was 100 active players it doesnt seam that bad.

Yeah, we don't have any reserved slots on our server.  I think its lame.  If the server is full, and there are no admin on, get on BF2CC or something and kick someone yourself.  That's my opinion anyways.

Reserved slots are for people who dont have admin to kick a space.

Also I'd rather a server have 1 reserved slot than be able to wait for a free slot join and get kicked (or have someone else kicked) if a clan member happens to want in. (unless its only a 16 player I guess)

The reserved slots don't work the way they were intended.  All the slots should be available.  then if they are taken and someone with a reserved name tries to log in, then it should kick the lowest score person not in a squad.

At the least this would eliminate a lot of complaints about the slots not being used when there are "public" players who want to play on the server.

I think that too, there was a server with 54 players or so and it had 16 reserved slots

reserved slots totally suck. even one. admins can kick for themselves or clanmates to join.

I never really understood the point of reserved slots tbh, if its full boot someone... Whats so challenging about that?

Tho I have only admind multiplay servers where you dont actually need to be on the server to kick people, if other types dont let you do that then i guess one slot reserved would be handy but any more than 2 (for balance) just lacks any logic

Most of the reserved slots are not for admins, but for people who donate to the server in question.  As the donater gets the right to play anytime they want.

Yep, and I totally understand that.. But my argument is that if you reserve TOO many slots, the number of players on the server goes down (because of what I wrote initially), this means less fun for me, and thus I'm unwilling to pay for a reserved slot (and I DONT mind paying for one on a good server) becuase I have more fun on servers with FEWER reserved slots.

Ive seen 64-player servers with up to 10 places reserved, what idiotism is that
You only need 1 reserved slot for an admin who can kick people when members want to play

You don't have to be on the server to kick people,
you can see what is typed in chat, you can see kit, rank, squad, score, vehical, Kills, death, TK's and who the commanders are.

reserved slots are not for admins.  they can kick anyone they want using bf2cc or some other admin program.

reserved slots are for those who don't have admin status on the server in question, but who have reeserved the right to play there anytime they want.

I've seen a couple of 64 player servers with 16 reserved slots.

This would be a non issue if DICE/EA had set up the reserved slots in the server correctly.  Letting anyone play there until someone with a reserved name wanted in, then kicking a person to let the reserved name in the game.
