I can't understand admins who put in more than 2 reserved slots on their servers. It's fine that they want to reserve slots for people who pay, or for clan members. But really... If you reserve ONE slot, then when this is taken, the next time someone leaves the game there's one slot open.. AND THIS GETS RESERVED !
Ie: if you have a 64 man server, and reserve 2 slots, you have the 62/64 (2) notation in the menu when viewing the server in question. If someone on ehte reserved list joins, it'll change to 63/64 (2), and still noone but people on the reserved list can join... Now when a guy NOT on the reserve list LEAVES the game, you're back to the inital starting point....
And with people playing.. let's say 2 hours at a time (accounting for switching servers, CTDs, eating/shitting/pissing breaks etc.) any 64 man server would have a player leave every two minutes or less. So even if you want 16 people to join at the same time, at MOST the LAST guy would have to wait half an hour to join. On most servers people leave a LOT more frequently than every two minutes anyway, so in reality, it's 10 minutes tops.
So why would any sane person have more than two slots reserved ? I can understand why people want TWO slots in stead of one. Both to allow for fater joining of "reservists", and to ensure than the teams wont get unbalanced by one team always not having the last man (the 64th player). But really.... I've seen servers with 16 reserved slots ! You might as well put up a password protected server instead !
I dont mind paying for a slot on a very good server that plays the maps I like, especially if it's a large server with many players on it... I LIKE lots of players. But if 16 slots are reserved on a 64 man server, that's 48 players playing usually. Often times much less because like me a LOT of people like the full servers, and thus the server depopulates much faster and becomes boring. If I want a "high points" round, I'll go LOOK for depopulated servers, I dont want to PAY for a server slot where I dont get the action I like.
And for people who DONT pay for a slot, if the server is at say 54 people with only 48 "public" slots (never seen that, but it should theoretically be possible), a player now has to wait for SEVEN people to leave before being able to join... I just go look for another server.
Just my opinion... For any server admins out there... Think about it. You loose out of a lot of action by reserving too many slots.
