I have a 7600GS running on AGP 8X card and 1.5gb ram. Running at medium is terrible, 19fps even when theres a few people around. With low, fps was 40, is it normal? Does having a high graphic card necessarily give u good fps? Btw my processor is an Intel 2.4ghz.

Well i know running high uses 700 mb of ram for textures.  I believe the graphics card can necessarily give you good fps.

Yes and No.  The ram stores memory that it may need to pass on to the graphic card.  In this sense, yes they do, but the graphic card also renders graphics on it own.    Also, when playing you should shut down all programs that you do not need.  The more resources allow the game to use the better your FPS is going to be.  I do not have a high end card, better yet, I still have PCI, and I still get decent FPS.  I also only have 512MB of RAM and a 2.4Ghz processor.  When I play I make for sure that I close all applications that I do not need.

BTW, if you are using FRAPS to check your FPS, it is not a very good in my option.  FRAPS uses a lot of resources, and will lower you FPS.

Might be your procesor and shuting down background tasks helps alot. "End it all" is a good program to shut them down fast, just google for it

There's your problem mostly.  I had an Intel (don't flame me, it was a gift lol) before I got my dual core AMD and I had an X800 All in Wonder ATI card, which at the time was really nice and my CPU was overclocked to over 2.7 ghz and it still ran like shit. So yeah, invest in a new CPU. Preferably AMD

yeah, a clanmate of mine just upgraded from a pentiumD to a E6800EE. his frames went from 70-100 to 100capped...at all times (with 2 gb corsair and 7800gtx 512). processor has a lot more to do with it than i thought.. (he also said it took him 2 minutes to optimise shaders...takes me closer to 10 )

2500+??? Wow that's old. Upgrade to a new CPU immediatly. With the recent price drops in AMD due to Conroe's unveiling, you should be able to get an excellent overclocker for around $125. Which I'm going to say is a steal.

Check out this one, very nice.

Yep. New processor.  like said already, theres been a price drop on alot of processors out to usher in the newer ones. Hell, I paid 1,011$ for my AMD FX-55 when it was top ofthe line...now? 319$ less than two years later. OUCH!

I'm running an agp system as well. i got a gigabyte k8nsc-939 mobo with an amd 64 3700+ running at 2.2 ghz with 2 gigs corsair xms pc3200 pro memory ( 2 1 gig sticks)  and a xfx 6800xt 256 agp video card. i can run the game on all high settings with 4x aa. the game runs smooth and flawless. about 60-70 fps on the ground and 70-80 fps in the air. when i first started playing bf2 i was using this system with a bfg 5500oc 256 agp video card. it ran on medium settings with no aa flawlessly. even though the box of bf2 says you need at least a 5700 series nvidia card to play.
id say that your system should be able to play the hell out of this game . I'm assuming that your 7600gs is a 256 mhz card. id say based on my experience and and educated guess is its your memory. I'm guessing that you are using 3 512 MHz sticks of memory.  that would stop your machine from running in a dual channel memory setup. i say to try pulling 1 512 stick out and  try that out. if you need you may have to change your BIOS settings to run in dual mode. if it doesn't auto detect it on start up. or buy 1 more 512 MHz stick . that would put you to a full 2 gigs of memory. and it should be running in dual mode. ( providing your mobo supports it.) performance gains are huge when you run in dual channel memory mode. my system didn't run bf2 great with 1 gig in single channel mode. but 1 more gig and it was great. better than expected. my fps are up there with some pci-e and  sli machines. please post more info about your system and someone may get a better idea of whats wrong with your set up.

Definately get rid of the 2500+. Im not saying it to be mean or anything, But its definately your bottleneck. Your going to need a new Motherboard also as your 2500+ prolly is a socket A or Possibly a 754. If so, Anything thats going to do you ANY good is going to be a socket 939 AMD64 chip. They have cut the AMD X2 4200+ down to $140 here in the US. Thats a Duel core 64 bit CPU. You cant beat that with a stick.

Im running a 3700+ Overclocked from 2.2 to 2.7 on air with a slight voltage adjustment. Have an ATI X1800XL 512mb Gfx card and 4gb Kingston HyperX Ram. Im also useing the Page file Bypass Trick in the games settings file. I Rarely get below 110 FPS at High settings. Vid card is Not overclocked.

To the original poster, you say 2.4 Intel, But what Kind? Is it a Pentium4? A Celeron? PentiumD? Is it a 2.4A, B, or C? It All depends. My kids rig is a 2.4C Intel Pentium4 with a X800XL 256mb vidio card with 1.5gb ram. He gets 70FPS all the time on medium to high settings. Its all in the setup of your computer. Try defraging your hard drive, and possibly the page file bypass. Let the vidio card and your RAM do the work instead of the Hard drive.

no, because you can run the ram in dual channel and the proc will be a hell load faster. a 2.4 P4 is just ultra sloooowww. kaisers problem is like putting an turbo charger (a 7600) on a renault (P4 2.4). it still stays a crappy car

That's one of the biggest kick to the balls stories I've ever heard. I feel your pain...actually, come to think of it I don't. I waited 3 months for my 3800+ dual core Manchester to go from $303 on Newegg down to $169. I found out about the drop on Digg.com which is a fucking awesome tech website for nerds and such. $130+ goes a long way on a new rig, actually it went towards a few parties, but still, it went a long way.

You say its a 478, yes thats the type of socket, But what kind? Use a program called everest home  google it and install it. Its free. It will tell you anything you want to know about your computer. Ill post a link to it if you like. I could then maybe get some help for you to maximize your computer to get you better FPS that your getting if i can find out what it is you actually have.

Heres the link        http://oldversion.com/program.php?n=everesthome
