Personally I feel that BF2 needs some change.  Not only should we be given several more maps with every patch, and be able to play certain certified custom maps on ranked servers (Call of Duty : UO officially included a custom map from CoD1, and many leagues allowed certain custom maps to be played in matches) but the most important thing I believe that needs to change is the unlock and ranking system.

1. Too many Gunnery Sergeants.  The ranks should have higher point requirements, so maybe you'd need 30,000 points to get Sergeant.  This will make ranks more "realistic" but we will still see some high ranking officers without having every other player a sergeant of above.  10,000 gets you to private, 15,000 Lance Corporal, 20,000 Corporal, etc. etc. etc.  But to appease the noobs who play this game just so they can feel cool by playing with an unlock, the ranks wouldn't be dependent on ranks.  You might get an small unlock every 500 points, and a larger unlock every 5,000. 

2. As said above, completely redo the unlock system.  Take everything away from every kit except the basic stock weapon in standard form (M4 with regular sights), pistol, knife, and helmet.  Everything else will be an unlock. 

Every kit will have unlocks for that specific kit... similar to 2142.  At every rank you can choose whether or not to save up for an upcoming unlock... for example, say if you wanted the L96A1 for sniper, you'd need to get at least to Corporal or Sergeant before the unlock is available.  If you unlock anything before that, the point/rank requirement would be higher.  So as Assault I could choose whether I want to get a grenade launcher now, or get a scope for my M16 later.  This will make every player unique.  A player would be able to add as many unlocks as he wants, but eventually he would be so slow it would render him useless to defend himself. 

Also, include Special Forces gadgets and attachments as additonal unlocks.  For example, every kit will have gas mask as an unlock, and Assault will have grappling hook as an unlock, Support will have tear gas, etc.  This will make vanilla BF2 gameplay more in-depth and varied.  As for unlocks for unlocks goes, you would first need to unlock a G36c, and only after that would you be able to unlock a scope, silencer maybe, and other assorted stuff. 

3. More in depth weapon choices.  Add a stinger unlock for anti-tank.  Add an option for an engineer to pick from an M4 or an M11 shotgun.  Pretty much what I'm saying here is the 2142 unlock system on steroids. 

I know it will never happen, but it's fun to think of what BF2 could be if gamers had a say in the design.

Who cares if theres tons of gunnery sergaents....they think they're cool with their rank, but thats probably cuz all they play against are noobs...let them join a FW Gauntlet server or Tom Clancy, 1st Air Madmax or UTAC...and they'll get owned and just want to leave....if they cant stay alive in those servers, then it shows their rank isnt properly theres...kinda like players who are gunnery sergaents but have had to play for 300 hours to get it...just sad

NO ranks are to messed up as is dont make it higher make 1st sgt lower rather then higher. not 2 mention every 1 should have a chance to get all th unlocks even casual games. ulike some of u who all u do is go to skool and play games, some of us like game and want to have fun in them but we dont wayt to have to plat 4 500 hours to get 4 dam guns. so u stop being a noob and deal with it. I hate asses like u.

Well, if you played BF2 when it first came out, almost every player was Lance Corporal or Private, and maybe once in a while you'd see a Sergeant or something.  I liked it more back then.... when I chose my first unlock it actually had a good feeling to it, now when you rank up you get 2 unlocks, and it just kinda takes the fun away.

I remember back then I once stole a G36c... I thought it was such a cool weapon because only a few players even had it.  Then, after 1.12 or whenever when they lowered the rank requirements, every other player had a G36c and it really wasn't as fun.  Nowadays I have more fun playing with stock weapons than I do with unlocks, because everyone else is using unlocks, go figure

My point is, they might as well freaking give everyone all the weapons anyway.  We now have all unlocks available in unranekd mode, and every player has played with all the unlocks, and every other player owns al but 1 or 2 unlocks.  Takes away the fun.

I hope 2142 wonte end up the same way when expanshions come out. I hope thay just add rnaks like higher ranks but make there be a private 4th class and then work yer way up to first class so u can get more unlocks.(this is if they add more unlocks. i know i will peobably only get 2 unlock trees total so i will make other accounst to get the other.)

I would of liked some different stuff for tier 2 kits.  Some suggestions for "stuff which would be cool, but we'll never see, but hey its fun to dream":

Sniper: deployable bush (replaces claymores); depends on map as to what kind, throw it out and G to pick up
SpecOps: enemy uniform
AntiTank: stinger (replaces SRAW/Eryx)
Support: mortar (replaces machinegun); throw it out to deploy, E to start using, G to pick it up again
Support: mini sandbags (replaces grenades); throw out to deploy, G to pick up
Medic: adrenaline shots (replaces shock paddles); recharges stamina instantly without needing to rest
Engineer: C4 (replaces mines), make it like BF1942 engineers, they don't just fix stuff they sometimes blow stuff up too

I'd hate this. C4 is the only reason Spec Ops is any good. What is Support going to do without a gun to protect themself?

First.. hat's off to the COD:UO comment.. my #1 game (yes.. I will admit I play something more then BF2). .. Happy Penguins FTW!.

Ok back to BF2 talk...   

Custom maps would be cool, and maybe some custom settings like limiting what weapons can be used... (obviously default to no-stats). 

But raising the requirments on unlocks would be horrible.  A person's rank is nothing more then thier dedication to the game, not neccessarly thier skills.  And I would hate to spend all 180-200 hours just to get my unlocks back.  Let alone more if things were raised.

And what's this crap about getting two unlocks?  Yeah if you purchased Special Forces... but there are still people out in the world who aren't gonna spend more money just becuase they wanna "G36E".  (IE: ME!)

I'd like to see different game modes for regular BF2.. TDM or DM.

As much as I would like a URBAN USMC vs China maps, or a interior maps (fighting inside underground bunkers, massive elaborate tunnel networks) more likely EA ain't gonna make any more new things or changes for bf2 ever.

I agree with Willis about the ranks and unlocks. I have to say I'm not super duper at the game nor am I bad but I like the game a WHOLE lot. I believe the ranks are just dedication to the game and how much you keep trying. the unlocks are fine, except maybe they could make it to where you get one every so many points instead of each rank.

What incentive would EA have to change BF2 when 2142 ($$$ in their eyes) is right around the corner?  It wouldn't earn them anymore money.  That = they won't do it.  But good idea.

Then there's no point in having a rank system.  If 9/10 players in a server are gunnery sergeant or above (and they often are) then just completely throw away ranks.  They serve no purpose.  Unlocks only.  There's no fun or reason to even include such low rank requirements in the game.

Remember people, BF2 is based on real life.  I have a feeling there would be tons of privates, lance corporals, corporals, and sergeants.  If they included ranks just to "be fun", then it is another pointless feature of the game.  It would be like saying "Oh, well, we included infinite ammo for everybody because noobs complained about reloading.  So we added it for fun."

So I say, fix the ranks, or get rid of them.  They server almost no purpose except to keep people playing longer for almost no reason

If people act sensible about it you'll find that the points, ranks and unlocks thing is a good idea. Unfortunatly people are idiots, and will see a simple thing as 'what symbol do you have in BF2' as a mjor issue. Fuck them. The ranks aren't meant to be anything to do with ego or whatever, but it's just a rewarding thing you get. It should apply to you and you alone, no-one else should really give a shit.

Also, they make the points requirements lower so people have fun playing with unlocks. Why shouldn't they?

Your proposals would work no better than the existing ones, anyway. Think about it this way, there's a few million players who've never posted to complain about the unlocks/ranks system, and only a handful of people who have posted to complain.

They'd give peoplem a greater variety of things to do ingame.  SpecOps could sneak, Support could hang back and rain mortars from a distance...

Are you kidding?  The SpecOps rifles rule!  And with an enemy uniform you'd be more able to sneak into an enemy base.  Also, support would still be able to support their team with fire, just from a distance.  And they'd still have a pistol, or would be able to pick an old kit...

Exactly, that's why I said it.  It's the BF2 Improvements section, why the hell would you come in here and criticize someone for posting something?  You might as well say what a waste of time to the other thousand people who made posts in this section, too.

In my opinion they should scrap 2142 ans start on bf3 which will be bf2 1.0 with nothing changed then will i actually buy a ea game besides FIFA for my 360.
You have to learn the rules of the game and then you have to play better than anyone else.
