Im looking for a decent cheapish gaming moniter and i was looking at this one

http://au.lge.com/md/product/prodcatego … 100000973#

5ms reasponce time        2000:1 contrast ratio             1440X900 res

i can pick this up for about 400-450 Australian dollars,
My question is will this moniter be disapointing or pretty good for gaming? And does bf2 support that res?

Thank you very much.

the specs are good, but unless it's a dell, i always recommend actually seeing it before buying it.  and make sure whoever you get it from has a good dead pixel policy.

and i think the max bf2 res is 1280X960@60Hz

I could be wrong about the resolution.  someone with a big widescreen needs to answer.

For the 19" monitor you're looking at, LG's policy is that if there are any dead/defective pixels found within 14 days of purchase, the monitor can be returned to the point of purchase and exchanged.  be sure that wherever you buy this monitor they back up the manufacturers policy.  I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND SEEING THE MONITOR IN PERSON BEFORE BUYING.  I haven't seen any reviews of this specific monitor, but overall, LG seems to have a good reputation. Good Luck

Response Time : 5ms = Good
Resolution : 1440 x 900 = Bad

hmmmmmm thanks for that MARLBOROMAN82 it seeems that all there hud's are stretched even with editing the games folders to make it to wide screen or what not, so im thinking against widescreen right now.

nope no stretch, i have a 20.1 viewsonic setup exactly like that for bf2 and it works fine. also 2142 supports widescreen as well. i will send you some ss if your still not convinced.

That monitor has great contrast and passable brightness. 5ms is a cool enough response time. However:

...and that's why I never buy monitors online. Too much of a hassle to ship back if something goes wrong.

Erm no its goes LOT higher than that. And why do people go mad for Dell monitors they're nothing special.

Back on topic, that LG looks good, if you'd like an alternative try the Hanns-G HW191DP, hearing very good things about them.

----> site for specs http://www.hannsg.com/us/ (its on page two of the products section, first one middle row. I would link it but its all flash so it just hits the home page).

I totally agree about Dell monitors, I've not see one that's led me to think they're the best.  However, at a LAN party during the summer, looking at a row of 8 monitors, the Viewsonic VX724/924 looked better than most.

My VX924 does BF2 at 1280x1024.  If you have a 20"+ monitor, it should do 1600x1200 (as long as your graphics card is up to the job)

the forced widescreen works fine in bf2, however, the HUD will be distorted. keep in mind that this goes for jets/helos/tank HUDs as well, so if your used to playing bf2 in not-widescreen, be prepared to spend a week or so getting back into the flow...its very different.

LG is a good brand, but i would check it out at a store first...also, if you have a Costco near where you live (i remember going to one when i was in Australia a while back...), see if they carry something similar. i say this mainly because you can return anything there, no matter what, for a year...most awesome dp policy ever.

the contrast ratio is good, but its hard to tell the difference on anything above 750:1 (correct me if im wrong), but 2000:1 is probably just a "look, our contrast ratio is better, even if the monitor costs $100 more, so BUY OURS NOW!!!" thing.

and bout dell monitors, they are arguably the best. ever. hands down. i just set up a lab of 30 dells with 19" LCDs, and they are beast. absolutely beast. hands down. visually appealing, and the resolution/w/e is absolute the best. however, they are expensive, and you can only get them thrugh dell and a few online retailers, but not many. this is why they are not as well known.

That LG looks pretty good, but I just got a Hyundai N91W for around £160.

I think it's awesome, check it out.

dell also just released a stripped down version of their awesome 20.1 widescreen. i will find the link in a sec. has all the performance of the higher end with out all the extra connections and features.

here it is
i love my view sonic. it priced great with really good performance, but i wish they would have had this when i bought mine. the higher end version is supposedly the best 20.1 out there and i can only imagine this will be just as good.

also make sure you graphics card can support this type of resolution. the only reason i upgraded monitors was for sli.
