First of all, I'm not complaining. I love 2142.

Many people are posting/complaining about the fact they that now lose one-on-one infantry battles, even though they started shooting. The reason for this is that infantry combat has changed. BF2 was about having fast reactions. Generally, two people would meet, go prone, and shoot. The faster one would win. Many of you formerly fast people struggle to do this now with the new delays and lower weapon accuracy. 2142 is geared much more towards defending and ambushing, as it takes longer to kill people. Rushing headlong into an enemy base no longer works, as a defending support will mow you down.

Also, I estimate that about 3/4 of people here play primarily Karkand/Sharqi. Thos maps are the "twitchiest" of all.

All I can say is get used to it or go back to BF2.
yeah that was exactly what I did and what I thought on the whole infantry combat matter. In BF 2 I had a very aggressive play-style that basically meant to steamroll right through and cap that flag. If you got behind someone in BF 2, you'd kill him. Now, while aggression works, its a lot harder to perform. I find myself sprinting into enemies that haven't even noticed me...but since my accuracy is soo aweful, I end up emptying my clip without killing, leaving the guy plenty of time to return the favor, and since he wasn't the one running and sprinting...well, he just mows me down.

Support guys are actually something I fear now. Everytime i want to destroy a console I truly hope there aren't a bunch of em defending the hallway.

IMO, infantry combat took a giant leap backwards compared to BF2.  BF2's infantry combat used to be fluid before 1.4 but its still a million times better then 2142.  This game is an arcade FPS.  Its not supposed to be a real life strategy sim.

Theirs nothing exciting about waiting prone for 5 minutes just to ambush 1 or 2 guys.  It makes no sense.  And the sheer fact that you have to UNLOCK grenades just so you can clear out the enemy support murders alleys in the Titan is just sad.  Even with laying prone, the accuracy on most of the weapons are so bad anyway that even if you get the jump on another player, they'll still have no problem evening the playing field by going prone and shooting back.  If your against more that 1 player, your totally screwed.

This is supposed to take place in the future right?  How come the weapons are shittier than the ones in BF2.  I  guess I  can't blame EA/Dice for trying to expand their market to busy soccer moms and little pre-schoolers.
well i may not jump into the 2142 bandwagon for now, but i will say this.

i rather wait 3-5 min to get 1-3 sure kills than use my 3-5 min to get killed myself 5-10 times.  anyone who just runs around the map trying to hose the place down with their rifles is a complete and unskilled NOOB.

since i am very good with a spec ops kit, i dont go looking for kills , i wait for one to show up . that is the key to stealth and to my sucess.

regarless of accuracy in 2142 demo, i usually get the same amount of kills.

i have been playiing Bf2 for a year now. run and gun dont work for squat. against noobs , it does. but against professional like myself....you dont have a chance in hell with a run and gun tactic because i will hit you when you least expected.

2142=teamwork.  Yup.  Being tactical is very useful, also gives you a lot of knife kills.  Which we all like.  Burst fire is useful but single shot is the best for any accuracy.  Won a lot of one-on-one engagements against support by placing a few good shots into their skull.

One thing people need to do is actually wait for people to get into their vehicle.

I think BF2142 will even out as well as people start to figure out how much the scoring system is weighted towards Squad Play.  Right now people don't realize that you get points if you attack what the SL is telling you to attack.  You get points by telling your squad to attack a position and they do.  The more people realize that their score and unlocks are dependant on team play the more full squads you will see running around supporting each other.

Over all I think the infantry combat side of 2142 works quite well.

Because of the high ROF, 900 rpm for pretty much everything, at very close range it's the player with the best reactions often wins [as they should], but at anything over point blank player accuracy rather than reactions are more important.

It will be interesting how player tactics develop, for both attack and defence of the titans as people get unlocks.
