And I would have to say " No " they shouldn't. Atlease with car against car chase. Hey, doesn't most police forces now days have well equipped helos? Helos that can follow, always keeping the suspect in sight from a very far distances?
Police are here to protect and to server. How are they protecting us, when they " are in away " making a suspect go faster, with a possiblity of crashing into and harming, killing a innocent person/person's? The police throw down spike sticks, this only makes the matter worse. They don't stop the car right away. This only making a better chance the person is going to run into someone? Hell, I have seen on cops, the world scariest videos where people run on bare metal brake cylinders, still going 55-60+ MPH.
It's my feeling that many police officers love the car chase aspect of the job. And do it just for the rush.
I don't mind if they chase a fleeing suspect at whatever speeds they want , but when the first sight, chance of anyone that is innocent appears they should call the chase off. Letting the guy go until another day.

of course not, they should just let criminals go... I say if you exceed 75mph it should clear your criminal record completely. if you rob a bank, just do 75... if you kill someone you should at least have to hit 80...

a majority of chases occur in rural areas where there isn't helicopter support, its just the ones in the big cities you always see on the news. but hey, thats not the point... let them go! its much easier than chasing after them anyway.

(can't explain it, recently, sarcasm... overpowering me....)

Yes they should. when they catch them, beat the siht out of them with falsh lights.  Being carefull to only hit thier legs like they did with Rodney King.

Just so you know. Not all police forces have helos, and there ARE strict guidelines on chases in every police manual Singapore included.

Yeah, I am sure they is. When to Pit them and when not to. I just saw this the other day on cops where they pit a guy on a highway full of traffic. With the guy slamming into a innocent person.
Or when to beat a suspect while camerias are on them or not. But i think the best one is, how to make the suspect look like he is resisting arrest when you have 5 guys on his back pushing him to the ground un able to put that arm behind his back.

Just to let you know I do have 4 police officers in my family. 2 brother inlaws a borther and a sister. With one my my brother inlaws getting officer of the year for his department not once but twice.

I guess they can pursuit them if they have done a serious crime, not for like shoplifting. But speeding after a car on a full highway ain't so smart. I guess every cop has to make a personal judgement.

the decision to try to evade police IS a serious crime, and usually indicates a dangerous individual. While shoplifting might not be serious, if they are willing to run from the police in a high speed chase over it, its probably not the only thing they've done.

but I digress, I stick by my original post... 75mph equals clemency, hehe

Yes they should pursue, until they have a positive missile lock on the suspect's vehicle allowing them to quickly terminate the pursuit.

it depends on the crime. minor traffic violation...best to let it go. high speed chases often get the wrong people hurt or killed. many city police departments carry that policy for that reason and the cost of a pursuit.

i think we should take the warning labels off everything.

let the police do their job, pull over the minor offenders. can't pay your fine? get in the system, feed the judicial police states' freight. we need the free flow of capitalism to power our last remaining bastion of freedom, our prison system.
