RHCP have written the same song over and over again since day 1.
I honestly find it very hard to place them above The Mars Volta.

I wonder if the RHCP ever stop rehearsals and say:
"Hey John, don't you think this sounds a bit too much like Californication?"

"What? I don't know what the songs are called, I've got the sheet music for our last albums though"

*Displays piece of paper with the word "chords" written in various fonts*

"Ah ok John... But you DO have more than one setting on your amp though? And perhaps something more than that Strat?"

"Ergh... Can YOU sing a line in more than your regular two ways?"

*Que western showdown theme*

I'm not trying (Although I might actually accomplish just that) to piss RHCP-fans off though but even though the RHCP write catchy tunes (the same tune over and over...) I would find it hard to listen to an entire album. Let alone a whole concert!

And you've been listening to RHCP since when?

I don't listen to them because of what I wrote above but I own enough of their albums to have an opinion about 'em.

The Mars Volta are a good Aussie act, but yeah, their music is kind of for an aquired taste. Definatly not mainstream.
They're from the US, I believe, and yes, it's prog rock with a spanish feel. Remember At The Drive-In? Now that's da shiznit!

When it comes gigs, I choose the "calm"-section. Example: We were at a Machine Head club-gig in Helsinki. I was drinking my barley-shake and so was my friend (known on these forums as Ubersturmbannfuhrer). We were both enjoying the show on the upper floor, with a perfect view down to the stage. Our mutual friend decided to storm the moshpit. At a Machine Head gig. Now that had "bad idea" written all over it. The night ended with us taking him to get his jaw+lower teeth rewired at 2am.

Nerd-section, yes please.
Mosh pits are always a good idea, not really sure what happend to your friend.

Although I suppose that is fairly dependant on what 'storming' the pit involves...

I gotta agree with the Mars Volta suckin.  Saw them last year when they opened for System of a Down...and i swear, the lead singer was humpin the mic stand for about an hour and a half.  Not to mention...it sounded like they played the same song non stop just as long.  At the end of their set...the lead singer said "If i was as motionless as you all are, I would be bored too." to the crowd...  yeah, they got boo'ed off.  Sad, but funny.  Then System came out...nice.

No.

I only buy a bands entire discography if I really like them.

So how can you possible make a statement regarding all of their music when by your own admission you don't own all of their albums and haven't listened to all of the ones you do own?

You don't need to own an album in order to listen to the songs.

Yeah I said I don't listen (present) to the albums I own, but that doesn't mean that I haven't listened (past tense) to them.

I saw them on the 2nd of July in Coventry. I was near the front, it was seriously scary at one point a girl got trampled and taken to hospital, I never though a Chilis gig would be so dangerous!

I saw Mars Volta open For A Perfect Circle.  They seem to be LEd Zeppelin wanna be's sans the RockStar-iness and slappin the ladies with small sharks.

I remember someone posted a frag video they made with that song playing.  It actually seems like a cool song.  Does anyone know a link to that video?
