ugh. i got hit by a goddamn car. i was riding along a friend's street, and saw a car pull into it from where i was heading to. Suddenly, without really slowing much or indicating, he swerves as if to enter a driveway (i.e. where i'm about to pass) pretty fast. i had reflexes enough to slam on my brakes - and went sailing head first into his bonnet, and then into the street on the other side. If I hadn't grabbed my breaks, I've gone straight under him.
I got a pretty nasty concussion, and amnesia! I woke up in a pool of blood to the ambulance crew, and didn't know who or where I was... freaky. I actually remember waking up and feeling that - not know what was going, and knowing I was in pain but being strangely disconnected from it. Shock I guess.
Thanks to my bike helmet, I was saved from a fractured skull. I mashed up my right hand and the right side of my face pretty good - hand is really swollen and they thought I'd fractured it for awhile, and I busted my lip and needed lots of stiches to stop being able to see my face meat.
I got kept in hospital overnight because of recurring amnesia, but I've been released with a 'bruised, battered and cut but ok' diagnosis.
Now I have to put up with a splitting headache for at least a few days, and my mashed hand is my mouse hand! d'oh!
moral of the story; Bike Helmets WORK. Seriously! I'd be much more fucked up if I hadn't been wearing it.
