Yea... a decent BMW costs what? 50k? A Civic? 20k? People buy BMW's and Civics for completely different reasons, one is a commuter car, one is a status symbol.

BF2 and BF2142 are almost the same price, and they're almost exactly the same. The only difference is, one is supposed to be newer and better. But, as the poster of this thread has pointed out the "older and crappier" version is more popular, for the same price. What does this mean? bf2>bf2142

Your analogy fails.

think of that : if you hadnt known about the two games before and tried both today would you be able to tell  which one was released before?

I dont think so.. and I believe youd think bf2 was released after if the titan mode wasnt there.

2142 sucks. The idea of having to unlock basic equipment is a pretty bad one.

I wasn't going to get 2142, but I got bored enough with BF2 for the moment so I caved. It's really not that bad, fun even. It needs patches badly though.

As a game on its own it's fine, what i mean is if BF2 and all it's pre-cursors hadn't existed and BF2142 was the only one in the series it'd be great, but it just dosn't stand up well as part of the BF franchise, it simply isn't as good as BF2 (my opinion).

I hope they are making BF3, I also hope its nothing like BF2142. Idealy it'd be set in about 15 - 25 years time, with weapons that are currently experimental, the future is a fine place for a game but it needs at least some grounding in reality to make it an absorbing experience. I simply cant make any sort of connection with BF2142 its all a bit to 'fantasified' (yup I made another new word), nothing seems "right" not that anything has a right or wrong as non of it exists and IMO thats the problem.

I find it amusing people will say EA/Dice are crap becasue a game has bugs.  If someone can show me one game that does not have bugs, at launch, or after patches, then the developer deserves a medal.  Unless you can program a better game shut your damn mouth already.  People spend years working on a game only for a bunch of jerks to call them "retarded" becasue their computers crash to desktop, becasue a programmer didnt do his job.  Just becasue you have problems doesnt mean that EA/Dice are horrible, its the player community thats horrible.

Go play the game, BF2 aint forgotten, 2142 is a new version just as when 1942 was followed up by BF2.
You think they will revert to an older warfare in the future?
That chance is small.

Right, why the hell is there flaming on this thread? Of course BF2 isn't dead. It's a bloody cool game. Has kickarse mods, some of the best maps I've seen in any game in a while aaaaaand...

If you get bored of BF2, SF offers a completely different style of play that can be incredible with a clan or good squad.

EDIT

I have noticed a sharp rise in the amount of privates to sergeants on the servers in the last few weeks though. Most seem like they are actually new players too, not secondary accounts. Has the price of BF2 dropped or something since 2142?

I'm not agaisnt bf2142 being a "futuristic" game. In fact, the game I play the most IS futuristic(Quake 2). Unlike Quake 2, however, bf2142 lacks imagination and "WOW" that futuristic stuff/sci-fi stuff is supposed to hold. Just think about it, what's so attractive about the future to sc-fi heads? The fact that things are supposed to be 100x cooler/streamlined/wildly imaginative. I see none of that in bf2142. I've heard that Dice spent more than a mere year developing bf2142, and I believe it. But to me, it looks like bf2 had more quality time put into it, and that's why bf2 is a better game to me, than bf2142.

O btw, op, that link didn't show me anything comparing bf2142's stats to bf2's

I tried 2142.. gave it a good honest effort, and decided it wasn't for me.  I don't like the gameplay or the layouts, the weapons and upgrade selections are drag and drop which in theory shouldn't be bad, but they aren't great either.  The units are hard to distinguish as well.. the only difference is the color on the uniforms.  BF2142 to me just looked cheap and hastily put together, even the way the rounds just end abrutly.

I'm glad I was able to return it.

Futuristic just doesn't do it for me (too many bright lights, crazy lasers and silly uniforms)

EA obviously thought long and hard about how futuristic to make BF2142 and listened to the feedback they got from the community. The community basically whined that they didn't want lasers and "pew pew pew" and so they tried to kkep the feel as contemporary as possible but with a future twist to it.

It's this kind of repetitive complaining about a game that get's things nerfed, the gamplay changed, and the community whining again.

Half the community say they don't want the lasers while the other half stay silent. EA release the game and the other silent half then say they don't like the game becasue it should be more futurey (I know it's not a word).

Can't we for once just accept the game for what it is, a new game. It's not trying to beat BF2. It's not necessarily in direct competition with BF2 (you are allowed to play both you know).

Dice programmers should not be allowed any form of social contact, they should be forced to work all day long and never listen to anyone, EVER. Evidently they cannot think for themselves.

You Fail as do most of you in this thread ,iam simply stating bf2 is still holding its own agaisnt a new game .In the first week i was and so where many others expecting to see a huge drop in bf2 gamers but it hasnt been so.

I also see alot in the last week new players to bf2 and special forces i know some are second accounts but the majority are not .

Theres alot of useless flame in this thread and thats what i expected because people around here cant have a decent disccusion without resorting to flameing .

Doc is one of the few posters that got what i meant and has a true feel for the game .

Bf2 will imho outlast bf2142 but thats my personal view they are BOTH good games i just see bf2 surpassing the life of bf2142.

Sometimes theres no point in even trying Knight.  I get your drift, but I believe that there will be another slight drop in BF2 players in the near future when the reviews and (hopefully) good feedback reaches the rest of the community.

just alot of bitching in this thread ( bet you didint expect that knight, not from a mature forum)

to all the people that are bitching/flaming and saying one is better than the other, come on who really cares,

if you dont like 2142 dont worry about dont pick at the bad things about the game, i mean why do you care you dont play it remember.

And to all the players that do like the game thats fine just play it and enjoy playing it.

And to people that play both kudos to you guys/girls, i mean i find both games different i will continue to play both because i enjoy BOTH games.

thats just my $0.02

I just think it's a real shame how the game is completely orientated to lower-skilled players, I was hoping it would be good so I'd have something to do till quake wars comes out, but I guess Company of Heroes, BF2, and Oblivion will have to make do.

EA don't listen to the community.

It's their creative imagination which creates the game.

The community have almost nil influence. (Sure beta testing came out, but that's mainly to find bugs, glitches and general problems... Not preferences on flashy red things or flashy blue things)

Personally, i've just never been a fan of 'Futuristic' type games... They just don't interest me.

2142 hasn't grabbed any interest at all... I don't find it much different from BF2, so i've really got no reason to waste good money on it.

As of this second, there are 1000 more people playing BF2. And it will go back and forth all day long.

Seriously, what I don't understand about 2142 is that they can make a pod that can drop you from 300ft in the air without you taking any amount of damage on landing, but can't make boots lighter than cinder blocks.

IMO they took infantry gameplay back a few steps with 2142. Playing Infantry in 2142 is not a fast and smooth as in BF2. My gameplay style has me geared more towards having my boots muddy with the rest of the grunts on the ground, thus the reason I like BF2 more than 2142.
