Hmm, alright. So far no one can help... in the mean time Ill do some exponential growth. Not that its any easier... but anyway!

OK, not THAT hard... I hope.

First of all you gotta remember:

Code:

12 = 3 x 4
Therefor:

Code:

12^3 = (3x4)^3 = 3^3 x 4^3
From now on it's simple mathematics:

Code:

(3^3 x 4^3 x 4^-3)/3^-1
4^3 and 4^-3 cancel each other out.

Now since you add up the exponent on multiplication, you obviously subtract it on division.

Therefor:

Code:

3^3 / 3^-1 = 3^4
because

Code:

3 - (-1)= 4
q.e.d.
Hope you understand.

Edit: Typo

To Maef! AAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhh, thanks man!! It was that simple? I understood. THank you very much!! Karma coming your way

Yes i understood anyway, even though you made a typo. Since its like you wrote now: 3^3/3^-1 its 3^3- (^ -1) Got ya!!

So when did you have this kind of math in school? How old are you Maef?

You could also just multiply them out.

3^-1 = .3333 (repeating) or 1/3

and so on.

Then when you get an answer you just convert back into exponential form.

I can help you.....split 12^3 up in  4*3*4*3*4*3 ...then spilt 4^-3 up in (1/4)*(1/4)*(1/4).....  3^-1 is the same as muliplying the top with 3 .....4 and (1/4) equals 1 so you are left with 3*3*3*3  that is the same as 3^4.

Hope you understand......

Edit: he he okay someone else has posted the answer nvm then

Yes thanks, but I have to write the nrs always as an exponent. On this one. Others i probably could write it like you suggested. But have to follow what the teacher said

Ugh... not too long ago. A couple years.
I graduated last summer being 21 now (The school system is quite different here in Austria than it is in the US)

Well looks like I'm too late but just a small short and easy tip, when you have negative exponents over another number, bring it "down", there fore chaning it to a posotive one

Ah, I see. Im from Norway my self. Took high school from I was 16-19. Could have taken this kind of math in second grade... but I didnt know that I would want to be a dentist hehe. Its too bad. Im 25 now. So im struggeling with it. Dont even remember the simplest things. I meant didnt. Its coming back to me now though. Thanks everyone for your help!

The rule in maths is this
Indices once multiplied together add each other up.
Eg
3^7 x 3^7 = 9^14
Capiche?
Same goes with division, they minus each other.
So for the.... meh I got confused.....

Err... I believe 3^7 x 3^7 is actually 3^14

lol yeah 3^7 times 3^7 aint 9^14 but 3^14....but then again i think he may be joking about that part

SteikeTa, are you just doing this for the answers? Cheater...

Lol just kidding.

Hehe... no I already know the answer, but I needed to know the "procedure" to finding the answer

Meh, yeah, I put in 3^14 first and then i changed it. Because I got confused funnily enough.
This is happening to me a lot lately.....I wonder why.....
