Im usually make my own squad, and try to fill it with annything a squad needs to be succesful (i.e support, medics, assult etc).
I also try my best at following orders from the commander (if he actually knows whats going on and doesnt send us on a wild goose chase). i allso give my own orders to my members and try to guide them trough enemy teretory with the most amount of stealth so that we might cap some outpost in the back and "buttfuck" the opposing team!

but i allso notice manny squads consists of more or less lone wolfs that actually would be better of as,yes you guesst it,lone wolfs. my question to my fellow peers are: WHY?

why does one enter a squad and not play for the squad but instead run around on them self getting killed in some stupid maner?

i can understand that sometimes its nice to do some heroic acts and be the one that owns and all that, but why be in a squad? T
heres propably lots of other folks out there who actually wants to be a teamplayer but cannot because of them morons in a squad acting like Chuck Norris...!!

The reason i and many others join squads but then run around on a mad mission is for the extra spawn point, usually in the action.

Hope that answers your question.

I am an active squad leader....But screw the tactical shit. Fucking rush the flag with the most people and cap that. I dont have the paitence to walk from point A to point B with nothing in between for a measly four points and then sit back and watch as your team totally ignores it and the enemy takes it back with-in minutes.

Nah i'm never a squad leader. Only if i need a quick vehicle drop but that's it, i usually go back to my old squad after that.

I try to be a member more often. I usually ask "do you guys have mics" and when I get a good mic squad with a good leader + commander we usually win the round. Sometimes I play leader too and try to keep my squad together. If they're obviously doing their own thing I'll just let them, especially if they're higher rank. I like when I'm squad leader and the commander is on his mic, watching where you're going, pointing out enemies he sees on his scan, etc.

I wish squad changes could not happen during a match.  If you join a squad/start a squad, you should be stuck to it.  This business of bouncing around just to get a better spawn point defeats the purpose of having squads.  When I'm squad leader, I mesh with the commander and his direction (which is like 20% of the time if that) or create my own direction for my squad.  If I don't start a squad, I join the largest squad possible so i can spawn with it and contribute to them.

I'm squad leader most of the time but I mainly do do it just for the requests. I also use it as a spawn point for my brother, even though I die more than him.

Squad Leader mainly for UAV stuff.. although I do like it when my squad is full and lots of people spawn around me, very helpful - especially in the enemy midst!

Squad leader in APC is great though, since you have five open seats. The squad spawns there, and the SL doesn't get killed so they have the spawn point and the APC to cover them. One of my favorite things to do.

I normally just make my own squad and be leader even if nobody joins. I just like having orders. And its great being SL in a plane and having the commander telling you where to bomb and MG strafe. Its especially great if the commander will put the attack here smoke/arrow right on a group of enemies making it easier to get them while in the J-10/F-35B.

I go squad leader for several reasons:

1) To request UAV's at places that make sense when the commander starts thinking that putting the UAV over a flag on the other side of the map for 2 guys is a good idea.
2) I'm quite good at staying alive while close to the action, so I provide a better spawnpoint for other infantry.
3) Green text > blue text

i go squad leader if i get a jet so i can talk to the commander and get useful information on where enemy tanks ect are. I will leave my squad open and will most likely abuse people who tell me (offensively) me to be a proper squad leader. Seriously, im there for a reason, go to a different squad....

Squad leader points:

- Can't be team swapped as SL
- If you are an aggressive flag capper, your teammates will spawn on you continually to help you out
- SL = squad medics will make you a priority = better score for you = get raised when gaymored
- as SL when driving and walking, 90% of the time you will be first to the flag = 4 points instead of 2
- Know the map as SL, and the fastest routes to action and more points, if you don't know the map inside out, don't be a SL or everyone will split apart on the map
- Use VOIP continually as SL informing party of what you see, and where you are going - this helps to keep people cycling into kits that are needed (AT, SPEC, MEDIC, SUPPORT, GAYMORES etc) as needed, as well as it keeps the squad together because they know you aren't fucking around.
- Your priority as SL is to earn points while capping flags, while staying alive, while issue orders and keeping track of where you are going to next.

- The point of SL is not to hang back and be a pussy letting 5 people spawn for free of you while you get no points, it is to keep the whole crew moving together for a single target, raise anyone who dies, and move on to the next one

- As SL you should grab any fallen medics kit and raise them, and vice versa. There is no SL passing anymore, so you need to raise anyone to keep as many bodies alive as possible. You'd be suprised how often raising your buddy saves your ass when you die, because he can swap kits again and raise you right back and on and on and on.

- As SL you need to stay alive - I suggest learning to utilize your prone spamming, bunny hopping skills to the max, because there is nothing more annoying then a SL who is always dead or a SL that camps in the middle of fucking nowhere. You need to get into the action, stay alive, and make points.

- If you are SL and you don't have the most points, you are doing something wrong - SL takes a bit of extra effort, but the point rewards are greater if you do it right

- A squad of 1 support 1 medic is all you need to win a map, just remember to always swap kits to raise a dead medic and vice versa - the longer you stay alive, and the more people alive = more points for you and your squad. People often say don't rez people in fire - unless they are dead under a fucking tank, you risk your ass to raise them, utilizing timing, bunny hopping, and VOIP telling them to get up and move their ass.

You'd be suprised how effective this is, if your squad listens and you are good at swapping kits and raising people - have all hotkeys handy - such as fast gun swapping to swap to paddles, hotkey for grabbing fallen kit easily, and prone, jump, sprint, crouch hotkeys handy as well!

Put it this way, raising your buddy, even if he is retarded and cant shoot anything (worst case) is 100 more HP + armor they have to shoot at while trying to kill you as well. If you have paddles, or you know a fallen guy has paddles (you can see dead medics models pretty easily if you learn and the cross on the bag is easily seen as well) then you have up to four charges, = up to 8 points and up to 400 more HP they have to kill. + all of your buddies will obviously be able to fire back. You only need one squad mate standing at the end, who MUST grab any medic kit and raise all the dead bodies. That is the catch, your squadmates have to be willing to swap to medic kits quickly and raise everyone. This is not only a shit pile of points, but it keeps everyone together, alive and fighting, and mobile in that you don't have to wait 15 seconds and respawn and then walk a mile.

-Pretty much as SL the biggest enemy isnt the enemy infantry (if you master kit swapping above), its the enemies arty which will always come for your squad if you are any good, so keep that in mind while you are moving, and if you are SL and you know arty is coming on your head (eg you can hear it) then just back off 50 feet so you don't kill your whole squad. Everyone will follow you if you use VOIP and you aren't retarded. The second biggest killer is gaymores, and thats why you want medics with you - theres nothign more annoying then going to cap a flag only to eat a gaymore and have to wait 15 seconds and walk again, only to get gaymored again, etc. With medics, those gaymores are just +2 for your medics.

-One final tip: if you are support and you have targets at mid to long range, do not use your gun, use your grenades - always. Jump and throw, ammo bag, jump and throw, rinse repeat. You are a veritable fortress with unlimited grenades, an RPK/PKM, body armor, and a squad of medic humpers to keep you alive, you would be suprised at how many people you can kill with your grenades before you get up close and personal with your rpk for a handful more kills before you die (then wait to be raised). If you just proned and tried to kill them, you'd end up dead a lot sooner, and less people will be able to spawn on you into the action or onto the flag cap, and your medics will have to try a lot harder to keep you alive. Support SL or Medic SL = useful. Sniper SL etc. = go die. You really should only be playing 1 of those 2 kits as SL, because you want unlimited nades, or you want to be able to raise people, and anyone who dies ought to be able to swap your kit if they need to raise you or need some ammo.

I dont follow most commanders orders, I do my own thing. As much as i've played bf2, I am smart enough to figure out what is needed to be done.

As SL I just go from one flag to another (or follow commanders orders if smart commander) and try not to die

i am a SL a lot for the reasons zenmaster posted. You can just accomplish a lot more as a SL.  +1

I don't necessarily follow orders though, and I think the poll is stupid because it judges squad leaders based on their obedience to the commander. Its nice when you have a competent commander supporting the team with assets, but any decent player should know where they need to be provided there is UAV/spotting. null vote! -1

The best squad leaders are the ones that can move into key locations and stay alive while their teammates are capturing flags or generally causing a ruckus. The worst squads are those that don't recognize the pwness of their SL and fail to follow him around as medic/support keeping the action going through "gay" obstacles like claymores, nade spamming, flash bangs, noobtube suiciders, tanks, attack helos, and jets. After all, your high ranking squad leader probably chose the position because he is aware that he is the the best player on the server and would be utterly unstoppable with the help of a medic or support in his squad.

People join squads but play as lone wolf, or create one man squads, just so they dont have bunch of hours as lone wolf in their stats.
Also you can kick people from your squad so be sure to kick people that dont play "properly".
